GRAND HALL Tom Coates, Contemporary British Painter
An Exhibit on loan from Cross Gate Galleries
For the art connoisseur, this is a must-see exhibit! A remarkable display of pastel and oil paintings by internationally-renowned artist Tom Coates will adorn the Community Arts Center's Grand Hall this December. An adherent of the modern British impressionist style, Coates' paintings feature large brushstrokes that may appear chaotic or nonsensical up close, but step back for a broader view and the subject will emerge with almost photographic precision. Fluent in watercolor, oil, and pastel mediums, Coates' paintings vary from individual figures to serene landscapes and bustling cityscapes. By showcasing the work of an acclaimed international artist, the Community Arts Center hopes to bring the influence of the wider artistic world to the Danville community, as well as providing an opportunity to purchase this caliber of work. The month-long exhibit (December 4-24) will feature a selection of fifteen of Coates' paintings. All works are available for public purchase. PHOTO: painting by Tom Coates
SECOND-FLOOR GALLERIES Deck the Halls Community Exhibit

The open-invitation exhibit, an annual event each holiday season, is designed to allow artist- amateur to profession- to work in a variety of media. This year's exhibit will feature a selection of well-known local artists returning for the annual exhibit, in addition to the premier of several emerging artists within the community.

DINOSAURS ARE COMING! JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2010
One of the largest private dinosaur collections in the
country belongs to a father and son team from right here in Danville - a duo with a prehistoric pastime that has led them to collect more than 200 full dinosaur skeletons and travel to excavations around the globe. While they are quick to note this "hobby" is all for the benefit of science and the fun of sharing their fossilized finds with others, Jack and John Hankla have exhibited their amazing acquisition in major museums around the nation... and in January/February 2010 they'll bring it home for a must-see display at the Community Arts Center.
SCIENCE... INSPIRING THE ARTS
Presented with the arts in mind, this multi-dimensional exhibit will engage children's interest in the arts as they explore "the final chapter" of dinosaurs on loan from the Hankla collection. More than ten "creative stations" will lead participants through the exhibit as they sketch, draw, sculpt and design their own prehistoric creations inspired by the incredible specimens on view. Literally every space of the facility will be filled with life-sized cast dinosaur skeletons and fossil material from the Cretaceous period (145-65 million years ago)... including a Tyrannosaurus Rex! Imagine the creative possibilities... Among the related planned activities:
· Interactive Art Stations: sketch, sculpt, design or create a story about your own dinosaur! · "Museum in the Dark": see the exhibit by flashlight at night! · DINO DIG: find your own fossils! · Fluorescent minerals exhibit, on loan from the Settles Collection · Guided Tours · Gift Shop stocked with fossils and other Dinosaur-related gift items Pricing per person: $6 adults, $4 kids, $5 seniors, $2.50 field trips and Centre students with I.D. All proceeds of the exhibit benefit the CAC. No partnership was formed or founded between the CAC and Jack and John Hankla.
For more details and to find out how to schedule a group tour or field trip, contact the Community Arts Center by e-mail or at 859-236-4054, or visit our website for further details. |
| Lunch with the Arts
Wednesday, December 16 @ Noon
Featured Artists: Deanna Tomlinson Loveland
Join us December 16 when the CAC welcomes the multi-talented Deanna Tomlinson Loveland to the stage for our next installment in the Lunch with the Arts series. A Kentucky native, Tomlinson has built an impressive music career at a young age, so much so she has recently moved to Nashville to further her performance career plans. At the age of 5 she began playing piano, and later, at 9, explored and mastered other instruments, including the harp, and eventually the violin. She began writing her own songs and singing when she was 14, winning top honors in national contests, including a teen writing competition judged by Simon Cowell where she placed 2nd out of 12,000. Now, Deanna keeps a busy schedule of music performances across the region, even expanding her profile by signing with a talent agency and working as an actress and model. Certainly, this will be an entertaining and exceptional holiday performance - don't miss it!
To reserve a catered box lunch ($10), contact us at least 24 hours in advance by clicking here, or call 859-236-4054. Participants also may bring their own lunch, with a $5 donation at the door.
Every third Wednesday of the month, the CAC will present a featured artist who will present and demonstrate his or her work, with time available for discussion with the artist. The monthly arts series will feature everything from literary arts to performing, theatrical and visual arts. |
