Fuente de Pino

Yadira is one of our basket-makers from Fuente de Pino in Nicaragua.

We received an update from Nicaragua last month telling us that there are now 27 members of the Fuente de Pino cooperative, with 6 to 8 trainees!

Recently a friend in the US raised funds to help the cooperative build two workshops (one in each mountain community) that will give them places to meet and learn from one another how to improve their skills.

GREAT NEWS! Just this week, we received a shipment of both oval and round small trivets. If you go on our site, both are now back in stock!

 Article1Exciting News!

We don't often toot our own horn, but in this case we simply HAVE to!

Many of you are aware that in addition to our own website, we also sell on eBay. Back in June we were asked if we'd like to be interviewed for an eBay-produced project "telling the stories of some wonderful sellers". Naturally we were intrigued and I did answer some questions from a person who called about the project, but with grandchildren visiting and the rest of "life", I I didn't think too much more about it.

with Michael, Justin, and John

On August 6th, I got an email that we'd been selected for the project and that they would be bringing the director and videographer in for a "shoot" on the 25th.

To make a long story short, we met with the director (John X. Carey) and videographer (Justin) on the 22nd, the producer (Michael Steinmann) on the 24th, and did The Shoot on the 25th.

The day of the shoot was CRAZY! We met "the crew" (or so we THOUGHT) at Lake Ontario 6am. They wanted us walking our bikes at sunrise! Of course that meant waking up at 4:45am! Then it was back to the house for more shooting. That's when we discovered that the 4-person crew at the lake was really 15-18 people (I lost count) in about eight vehicles! There were sound people, makeup, location scouts, producers, a representative of the client (eBay). I can't even TELL you what job some of those people did! We couldn't figure out why this was such a big production - and why most of them had flown in from Los Angeles or New York City for this shoot!

with Heidi, from eBay

During the course of the day (which ended about 7:30pm in our 6th location of the day) we found out from Heidi, the eBay representative, that what they were shooting was one of six different documentaries about members of the "eBay community". Two were about eBay sellers, two about buyers, one about a non-profit, and one about a "social enterprise". And out of all the members of eBay (numbering in the millions), we were chosen as the social enterprise!

Our understanding is that the documentary should begin "airing" on YouTube on October 10th. It MAY be seen on some other media as well, but I don't think that's decided as yet. We'll be asking for your help to see if it can "go viral"! Thanks for joining us on this exciting journey!

GiftWin a Gift!

In addition to our monthly special (see last month's issue) we're introducing the change to win 20 "KVI Bucks"! How? Just take one (or more) pictures of you with your favorite KVI product and send them to us, along with WHY you love the product. We'll post them on our Facebook page, then on the first of each month pick the favorite (ours, or maybe based on the comments we get) and send the winner a code good for $20 off any purchase from our site. We'll feature the winning photo in that month's ad(Venture). You can send your submission(s) to us at info@kingdom-ventures.com. Happy picture taking!

To give you and idea what we're talking about, daughter Diana Fediw and grandaughter Lydia posed for some pictures near their new home outside Seattle, WA. (You can click on the picture to see more of their submissions.)

If you're our monthly winner, you can use your KVI Bucks on our site or in person at our International Marketplace or at any of our events.

Greetings!

With Labor Day come and gone, the "unofficial" end of Summer has come (sob). And so it's time to gear up for Fall festivals and shows!

If you live in the Greater Rochester Area, we invite you to the Second Annual Greentopia Ecofest at the High Falls festival site in downtown Rochester. We had a GREAT time last year and anticipate another super weekend for September 15-16. Come to the festival from 10am to 7pm on Saturday or 11am to 5pm on Sunday. There'll be great food, eco-educational programs, the beauty of the falls, and (of course) the chance to get great KVI products!

But if you CAN'T get to Greentopia or visit us at Roberts' Homecoming, we still wish you a great month!
