The (ad)Venture November 2009
|
Greetings!
Wow, only two months remaining in 2009! I'm not sure how that's possible, but here we are just a few weeks before the holidays! By the time you read this, our Open House will be just days away.
Survey Feedback
One of the results of our survey was that about half of the respondents either THOUGHT they knew about Fair Trade (but weren't sure) or didn't have a clue. So we're going to offer you our FREE, newly-created FT101 course in monthly installments.
BTW, if you haven't taken the survey, you still can by following this link --> Take Survey
Feedback for October: It's been suggested that we adjust our pricing structure. What do YOU think? We have a quick 1-question survey for you. Take the Pricing Survey
As always, we solicit YOUR assistance to "get the word out" about KVI. Tell your friends about KVI, and tell US about retailers in your area who might want to carry our products. Word of mouth is the best advertising there is! Thanks!
We wish all of you a great month!

Global Forum Report
You'd think that an event about Human Trafficking would be a "downer", wouldn't you? Well, nothing could be further from the truth. No, it certainly wasn't an occasion for partying, and there were plenty of sobering and somber statistics, but the prevailing mood was one of hope and optimism, mixed with a dogged determination that slavery MUST be wiped out and CAN be in our generation
When the folks at Not For Sale Campaign conceived of this Forum, they were hoping that 250 people would attend. Oops! As of the first session, over 750 were expected. The final number pushed 800! That posed a few logistical challenges, but the staff an NFS and North Coast Calvary Chapel did a great job of accommodating everyone.
It was amazing to see people from around the world, from a wide variety of political and religious backgrounds, all united in the belief that there MUST be an end to global slavery in all its forms.
Speakers such as Lou de Baca (US Ambassador-at-large for issues of Human Trafficking) and David Arkless (Manpower President for Global and Corporate Affairs) were among the keynote speakers. US representatives and a Canadian MP sent video greetings and encouragement. Breakout sessions covered topics ranging from changing justice systems to the use of entrepreneurial models as means of combating trafficking.
There's a great recap of the Forum online. Click the Global Forum logo above to access it.

It's almost here!
Open House is November 6/7 from 10am until 6pm.
Now we're hoping that all our new products "make it"! The placemats have arrived from Thailand and the scarves from Laos are here as well. The baskets from Nicaragua are en-route. Our new items from Cambodia should be delivered by the 3rd. And after a week of being "lost in space", our Kenyan jewelry showed up this past week. We'll have a wide variety of products for your shopping experience!
Throughout both days we'll have complimentary coffee from Joe Bean, Webster's own roaster of Fair Trade certified coffees, and on Saturday afternoon, Joe Bean's experts will be on site, sharing about their coffee and offering tastings. Both days we will have bags of Fair Trade coffee available for purchase.
It'll be a great time! If you're in the Greater Rochester area, be sure to drop in, say "Hi", and shop for people on your "gift list" (even if that IS yourself).

Fair Trade 101 Class 1
What IS Fair Trade?
- A Trading Partnership based on dialog, transparency and respect between all parties
- Seeks greater equity in international trade, sometimes called 'trade justice'
- Empowers producers by securing their rights to markets and equitable treatment
Fair Trade participants agree to abide by a set of guiding principles. We'll begin to review these in the next "class"
