Greetings!
Together, we are making a difference!
In 2011, the Center for Food Action (CFA) distributed over 61,000 seven-day emergency food packages to families and individuals in 90 North Jersey towns - that's up from over 53,000 food packages in 2010.
CFA also kept 1400 families in their homes as part of our homelessness prevention program and distributed over 9000 weekend snack packs to local children at risk of hunger over the weekend when school meals are not available.
Times are certainly challenging for all of us, but with your help we can continue to provide a safety net to those in our community who need it the most.
We encourage you to share this information with your family and friends so that we can all work together towards finding solutions to what we believe is a solvable problem. As always, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Patricia Espy, Executive Director

Weekend Snack Pack Program Helps More Kids |
Some key highlights of our progress in 2011 |

We will be providing 12,250 weekend snack packs to Englewood students during the 2011-2012 school year, a 51% increase over last year's distributions.
All children participating in the free or reduced lunch program at Englewood's Grieco Elementary School and Quarles Elementary School are eligible to participate in the WSPP.
The Rotary Club of the Palisades has organized and raised funds to bring the WSPP to eligible children attending the Anna C. Scott Elementary School in Leonia. We hope this model of partnering with local non-profit groups will help expand the program
Our thanks go to Bank of America, Mary Dora Byron, the Cresskill Board of Education, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, KPMG, the Charles Henry Leach II Foundation, the Rotary Club of the Palisades, the South Presbyterian Church of Bergenfield and the many scouts, religious and community groups who continue support the WSPP.
We would also like to give a special thank you to the Selver, Kurtz and Ostfeld families for helping fund and assemble weekend snack packs.
 | | Our thanks to Robert Rudin and the Cushman & Wakefield team for funding and assembling nearly 2000 weekend snack packs. |

My kids are hungry. Can I come get a food package today?
She knew that she had to reach out for help and remembered that in better days, her chldren had taken food to school for a food drive that benefited CFA. Although she could barely believe she was doing so, Tammi dialed CFA's Englewood office asking for help. Thanks to the emergency food package Tammi picked up that afternoon, she was able to feed her family while waiting for her next unemployment check to arrive.
Tammi made this call to the Center for Food Action on the fourth Monday of April. When she arrived at CFA later that day, she said that it had been a rough weekend because her unemployment check was insufficient to cover her rent and buy food. Tammi was in tears as she told CFA's advocate that she had sent her children, Kendra and James, to school earlier that day without breakfast.

About the Center For Food Action |
People come to CFA for many different reasons. Most of our clients have hit upon hard times due to an illness, a low paying job, or temporary unemployment. After calling CFA for help, an appointment is made for a needs assessment with a social worker or an advocate. A client can then receive a week's worth of food packages up to 12 times a year.
CFA also provides help with rents, security deposits, and utilities. In addition, advocates link our clients to community programs, provide budgeting and nutritional counseling, and offer referrals to other social service organizations, as needed. Please call or email for more information. www.cfanj.org
