Message from the President | |
Governor Nixon visited OTC this past Tuesday to make a major state-wide grant announcement. The announcement included a federal grant to improve high-speed broadband internet access in rural communities across the state. The grant will provide funding to expand the fiber optic network in central and southern Missouri, including Christian, Dallas, Greene, Laclede, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster counties.
The College will receive funding to support a new computer center that will house over 100 computers available for use by OTC students in our Lebanon extension center. Governor Nixon compared the building of broadband networks to the expansion of railroads and interstate highways. This was Governor Nixon's fourth visit to the College in the last two years. It is clear he understands the importance and role of the community college in our state. See the full video announcement or press release online.
Our major gifts capital campaign continues to be a priority to raise money to support our four initiatives and our growing needs. The initiatives are: Center for Workforce Development, Center for Health Education, Student Support Programs and Student Scholarships. You can see the four initiatives and the progress of our campaign in the graph below.
Thank you for your continued support.

Walton Family Foundation donates to
OTC's Campus Green Initiative Program |
 A new state-of the-art composter will be constructed on Ozarks Technical Community College's Springfield campus thanks to a $10,000 donation from the Walton Family Foundation to the Campus Green Initiatives program.
The gift was announced and presented by Mike Daw, president of Arvest Bank in Springfield, on behalf of the foundation.
The funds will help the Campus Green Initiatives program to:
-
Provide a composter, capable of producing as much as two tons of compost a day;
-
Work with local companies to compost and recycle waste; and
-
Present a unique learning opportunity for students, teachers and the community.
"We are so thankful to the Walton Family Foundation for helping us provide a place for the composter," Dr. Shirley Lawler, OTC's vice president for Academic and Student Affairs, said. "The science faculty and those in turf and landscape management are very enthusiastic about the prospect of bringing the composter here."
See a video of the donation, including an interview with an Arvest Bank representative. |
