 Message from the President
 Dr. Higdon
I am looking forward to another year of accomplishment with commencement happening tonight, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the JQH Arena.  Over 850 students will be graduating this year which will be a record number of graduates from our College.  Paul Sundy, a graduate of OTC and a local entrepreneur will be our keynote speaker and will receive the first OTC Distinguished Alumni Award.  This will be a special day for the graduates and their families.

Sunday, May 16,  two GED ceremonies will be held, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., in the Gillioz Theatre.  During this tough economic time, our Adult Education Program is vital to helping to move people from unemployment or underemployment to obtaining a good job. Often, the first step up the economic ladder is obtaining a G.E.D.  Special thanks to Ramona George and her team for their hard work and dedication to our community.

The first graduating class from the Middle College will hold its ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, at the Gillioz Theatre. This program is making a real difference in the lives of Springfield High School students and their families. I am very proud of the Middle College and its growth.  Dr. LaRaine Bauer and her team are to be congratulated on their first graduating class.

As the College continues to serve a greater number of students, our Imagine. Invest. Inspire. Major Gifts Capital Campaign becomes even more critical.  We remain focused on our four main initiatives to improve the College offerings in the area of:
  • Workforce Development
  • Health Education
  • Student Support Programs, and
  • Student Scholarships
We have made great progress in reaching our goal and have raised just over $8.5 million toward our $10 million goal.  You can also see an updated graph for the campaign below.

Thank you for supporting OTC as your generosity is the key to providing the quality education and training that our community has come to expect.  With your support, we will continue to be the community's college.
CoxHealth and St. John's Health System
announce $500,000 gift to create scholarship program

Scholarship SigningThe OTC Foundation has announced a major gift from CoxHealth and St. John's Foundation for Community Health.  The two healthcare systems have committed a total of $500,000 to the College to create a new scholarship program for dependants of CoxHealth and St. John's employees in OTC's Allied Health programs.

"This unprecedented level of collaboration is very exciting, as this gift will benefit not only our students, but the healthcare industry in our area, and, therefore, every citizen of our community," said Dr. Hal Higdon, president of the College.  "We are grateful to CoxHealth and St. John's Health System for their generosity, and we look forward to working with them throughout this process and in the future."

Each of the two companies has committed to give $50,000 each year for the next five years to fund the scholarship program.  The OTC Foundation is now accepting applications from students interested in receiving the scholarships; the first funds will be awarded in the fall of 2010.  The scholarship program is available exclusively to dependents and spouses of St. John's and CoxHealth who are pursuing any of nine of the College's Allied Health programs.  For more information or to apply for the scholarship program, visit www.otc.edu/foundation.

The OTC Foundation is currently engaged in its first-ever Major Gifts Capital Campaign; these gifts are contributions toward the Foundation's $2.5 million fundraising goal for the Campaign's Student Scholarships Initiative.  Other initiatives in the Campaign include:  Center for Health Education, $2 million; Student Support Programs, $2 million; and Workforce Development, $3 million.
