Message from the President |
|
Tonight, the OTC Foundation Board of Directors will host a Campaign Community Kick-off for the community to broaden support for our four Major Gifts Campaign initiatives.
We hope you can join us at 5:30pm at the Tower Club. Please call 447-2651 if you would like to attend. We believe OTC is worthy of your consideration.
To date we have raised nearly $8 million of our $10 million campaign goal. We continue to work for our students and want our community to benefit economically. Again, thank you to our students, faculty, Board Members and donors who are making this happen at OTC.
As always, please feel free to call, write, email or come by for a visit when you have a chance.

Legislative Updates
|
Over the last couple of months Dr. Higdon and Cliff Davis have been busy in Jefferson City meeting with State Legislators and the Missouri Community College Association on college equity. Over the past 20 years, unprecedented growth in enrollment among community colleges has caused inequity between community colleges. The Association formed a committee, chaired by Dr, Higdon, to explore a formula to deal with the inequities. The committee has made progress on the equity among community colleges and has unanimously agreed to recommend to the Presidents/Chancellors Council endorsement of a strategic plan that parallels our discussions with members of the State Legislature. The plan would entail funding community colleges that have grown between FY02 and FY08 and would be based on the percentage increase in enrollment (OTC would benefit greatly from this formula). In budget news, we are hearing from the Governor's office that State revenues are still down. Based on our agreement with Governor Nixon, we will not increase tuition. As it stands, 55% of the college budget is from tuition. This is disappointing, as it should only be one-third of our college budget. See more on Legislative News, Bills and Federal Legislation at the Missouri Community College Association website.
