Message from the President |

There is no question that 2009 was a tough year for many of us. The downturn in the economy left many people without jobs and others underemployed. We saw the effects of the recession first hand at OTC. Many students returned to OTC to obtain their GED, to learn a skilled-trade or to further their education. This resulted in a record-breaking enrollment of 12,884 students for the fall semester. As we reflect over the last year, we are also grateful for many things at OTC. We are grateful for our students and our community in which we serve, and the faculty and staff that make OTC such a wonderful college to work. We are also grateful for the support and volunteerism of our Board of Trustees and our Foundation Board of Directors. With the generosity of our 673 donors this year, we were able to award 192 Foundation Scholarships, to help 60 students through the Student Emergency Fund and to establish 11 new scholarships, including the Fallen Soldier Scholarship for dependents and spouses of service members killed while serving active duty in the military. We also continued to make progress in our Imagine.Invest.Inspire. Major Gifts Campaign and, to date, have raised nearly $4 million. All of this would not be possible without the generosity and support of each of you. Thank you for continuing to make OTC a premier community college. On behalf of the faculty and staff at OTC, I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
