August 2009
Message from the President

This week we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the expansion to the west side of the Norman K. Myers Technical Education Center. The building on our main campus is ready to open its doors to students just in time for the fall 2009 semester.

The 2009 school year will begin with classes starting on August 20th. OTC is experiencing continued growth in all five locations.  Fall enrollment is up over 10%, and in speaking with Community College Presidents around the nation, it appears that almost every institution is seeing double digit enrollment increases. We are optimistic that our enrollment will reach 12,000 students this fall.

With a large increase in enrollment, we will see many first time and/or first generation college students. These people will be facing a new environment and will need a great deal of support to successfully navigate the higher education world.  We are very lucky to have the faculty and instructional administrators that we do.  These employees are willing to work extra hard as new students are walking through our doors needing assistance and as we are making adaptations to the schedule to handle these increases.

OTC is fortunate to have the support from our donors as we continue with our Major Gifts Capital Campaign.  We have raised over $3.4 million toward our goal.  We are continuing to host Leadership Receptions in the community to improve awareness about our mission and to involve more people with our College.  We have held five Leadership Receptions so far and will continue holding these events through the end of the year.

We appreciate your continued support in spreading the news about Ozarks Technical Community College.

Legislative Update

Missouri Seal

As it stands now, Governor Nixon is moving forward with a special session with a statewide ballet initiative that would fund: workforce development, economic development, roads and bridges, and higher education.

This issue could be presented at the VETO session on September 16th and then needs to get through legislature and through the voters.
