Missouri Legislative Update

The Governor has signaled his desire to ask the Legislature to consider a bond issue. We hear a special session may be called to consider a potential $800 million bond issue. The projects would be divided between roads and bridges and higher education. Community colleges are asking for at least 25% of the higher education portion of the bond issue, which would be about $100 million. Our portion would be more than $10 million. We will keep you informed as the issue develops.

SIFE gives back by creating
Scholarship Endowment
 Sife
The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team from OTC earned the second runner-up trophy in its league at the SIFE National Exposition on Monday, May 11, 2009.  OTC was the only community college in Missouri to advance to SIFE Nationals, held this year in Philadelphia, PA. This is the third year in a row that OTC SIFE has achieved the distinction of competing in the National Competition.

Five students participated in the national competition: Angela Caruso and Liz Pettit from the College's Branson Education Center and Joshua Dye, Carrie January and Laura Louderback from the Springfield campus. Advisors Luise Bird and Bera Nichols also traveled with the team.

The winnings from this and many other events that the OTC SIFE team have placed, have been put to good use and invested with the OTC Foundation.  SIFE has created a Students In Free Enterprise Scholarship endowment to honor future SIFE students seeking an Associate's degree at OTC.
