Message from the President

Foundation President

Congratulations, Jim Moore!  The OTC Foundation is now in its fourteenth year of operation and has elected a new president.  Jim Moore, managing partner of American Products, LLC, has been named the president of the OTC Foundation Board of Directors.  The transition was made official during a meeting of the Board on Friday, May 1.  Outgoing president Dr. Marshall Gordon served in the position from 2007-2009.  Jim is the twelfth president to lead the Foundation.

OTC Summer Enrollment up 20%
Summer school has begun and enrollment is up 20% from last year.  This is amazing considering enrollment was also up 20% last summer.  This increase, while dramatic and a good reflection on the college mission, indicates that we are still in an uncertain economic climate.  Our importance to the economic health of our area has never been more evident than it is right now.

When looking at our enrollment, the most significant growth is at our Branson Education Center and at the Richwood Valley campus in Christian County.  Take a look below to see all enrollment numbers.
Enrollment by location:
Springfield - 1,930 students / Up 3.7%
Richwood Valley - 189 students / Up 61.5%
Branson Education Center - 101 students / Up 62.9%
Lebanon Education Center - 126 students / Up 23.5%
Waynesville Education Center - 45 students / First Summer
Online Classes - 1,599 students / Up 20.3%

Legislative Updates

The legislative session is over and here a few items that may be of interest:

  • Our funding remained the same for FY 10 as it is in FY 09.  Millions of federal stimulus dollars were utilized to balance the budget.

  • The twelve community colleges were appropriated $13 million of stimulus money. There is some discussion occurring as to whether some of these funds must be used to support the Caring for Missourians plan to increase medical graduates in Missouri.  The bill requires Governor Nixon's signature and he can sign it, veto the whole bill or line-item veto certain expenditures. We are hopeful that the Governor will approve the $13 million appropriations to community colleges. This bill contains millions for universities, K-12 and other public projects. We should know the fate of the bill by mid July.

  • The conceal and carry legislation that would have legalized individuals to legally carry permitted firearms on college campuses was defeated in the State Senate.

  • Expansion of the A+ program was defeated. This bill would have expanded A+ to all Missouri Public High Schools and would have provided tuition scholarships to A+ students who graduated from Missouri's community colleges to attend two years at Missouri's public universities.
