So I am very excited about having the opportunity to speak with Philip Mckernan, who is an international speaker, a real estate investor, and has a new book coming out in 2009. He has been a true mentor in my life. http://www.philipmckernan.com

I remember growing up my parents teaching me about respect and many of my experiences growing up was about modeling after my mom & dad's lead. I was also able to see the difference when people did not show others respect. During my upbringing, being part black in the 70's did at times meet challenges. However, it was thanks to my parents for always showing me what true respect for a person really means that prevailed. They did this without even knowing it but I really value those lessons of respecting people and honouring everyone no matter who they are, what they look like, where they came from or what their status was.

So my attitude growing up was no matter how hard a person is pushed, it is all in how we take it on in our own mind that matters. It sounds cliché but the message was "no matter what, you treat everyone the way you wish to be treated." I listened to my parents and other mentors in my life who showed me by example the same things. Don't get me wrong my young life was not always smooth just because of those words but it truly did help me to have the right attitude when I was picked on or when racist comments came my way. What a lesson it was to understand where the "ignorance" was coming from and that it was not the words that could hurt but how I could have taken on those words that could hurt me.

The world can be taken on any way you wish. It is up to you. You and your attitude in how you view the world and what energy you give to it. Words are just words, and it is how our mind accepts those words where the power comes from. So believe in yourself, know you are worth it, keep at your business, get help, and create the life you want, as you have it in you, and in your attitude and belief to make it true.
