Bouncing Back
Here are my 11 Steps to Bouncing Back from my personal experience of wins and losses over time.
1. Acknowledge that something has gone wrong. It took me a while before I understood that it was ok to say I am done, this is not supporting my soul, my spirit. Knowing when to quit is when the doors open and when they finally did for me.
2. Take Baby Steps. As I talk about in my chapter in my book The Power of Women United. It is important to initially take baby steps to get your personal power back and to achieve the success you want and ultimately deserve. Once you are on the path I then believe it takes strides to move you forward.
3. Get Back in Control. It's like the fireman saying. Stop, Drop, and Roll. Stop and take stock of what just happened. I knew I was in an industry that was completely not me. Deciding to sell my profitable company and do what I loved was a clear and necessary choice but did not come easy and along the way there were extra lessons I had to learn. "Letting it roll" as Louise Hay says was what I had to do to ensure sanity during those interesting times. I found time for me, got a mentor, and made sure I refocused before moving forward.
4. Reaching out to others. I have always been a private person so this was a tough one for me. Asking for support and reconnecting with people is important. Especially as women we want to help each other and we get a charge from seeing others become successful.
5. Do something for just for you. This can be something small or big depending on how much rest you need. I have a small container that I have had for years that I open and read the little gift inside that tells me what I need at the time, whether it is see an old friend, take a long bath, it can be anything... just relax and feel good.
6. Build your Confidence. Talk to a mentor who can help you tap into your strengths, your purpose. Do things that stretch you and help build your confidence. Think positively and be kind to yourself.
7. Trust your Instincts. Learn to problem solve and really trust that you know what is best for you at the time, in that moment.
8. Assess what occurred. It's ok to look back just for a specific time so that you can look at what the learning's were, what you can do to grow. Once you have done this though it is important to move on!
9. Envision your future. See the end result of what you want to achieve and work your way back. My husband Pat is great at this and taught me how to do this. I now write goals down on paper for 1, 3, 5, 10 years out so I know where I am headed. Sure it takes time but isn't 1 day of focus worth living a life of purpose and meaning.
10. Find your Brilliance. Finding what you are brilliant at leads to your purpose in life. If your having a crisis and you start to really look at what it is you do best and love to do, this will get you closer to your brilliance and success will follow.
11. Gratitude. Be grateful for the lesson, grateful for your family and friends, be grateful to be alive. I have a dear friend who has taught me a lot this year about being grateful for life as she continues to win the fight against cancer. She is one of the strongest women I know and I know for sure I am grateful for her friendship.
