Frankie's Journey.

Frankie

Frankie was rescued in the fall of 2009 wandering the streets of East St. Louis.  He was skin and bones when he was picked up.  He walked right up to his rescuer as if to say "take me with you, please".  He did and is now living like a dog should!  Here is a glimpse into his new life.

"As you know, Frankie came to us in September, 2009, after being picked up by GPG  as a stray in E. St. Louis.  We were not even sure we were ready to add another dog to our family, as our beloved 12 year old (rescued) Boxer had recently died.  However, while casually searching Petfinder.com we came upon Frankie's picture and immediately fell in love.   Little did we know then how well Frankie would fit into our family.
After coming to live with us, it was clear Frankie is a "people-dog" and much prefers to be with his humans than left on his own.  After a few destructive weeks at home while we were working, Frankie's favorite human, Barney, decided Frankie's time would be better spent keeping him company while working.  These days Frankie goes to work every day with Barney - riding around in the Gierer Heating & Cooling van.  Frankie knows no strangers and has been a big hit with Barney's customers, neighbors of customers, bank tellers, etc.  Frankie makes friends where ever he is taken throughout the day.  He enjoys a good nap and gets plenty of them while riding in the van from job to job.

When Frankie is not "working", he enjoys he enjoys the endless play and wrestling with his best buddy Louis, our Shih Tzu.  While Louis is only 8 lbs., Frankie and Louis have no idea they are not the same size.  They go almost everywhere with us on the weekends and can often be found snuggling next to each other while riding in the vehicle.

Hiking in the woods is another favorite activity of Frankie's.  He has his own backpack, where he carries his snacks and ours, as well as water for him and us.  He is very strong and loves exercise and adventure.   I would have to say that there really isn't much Frankie doesn't love, except being away from his humans.....his best friends.

Thank you so much for allowing Frankie to be a part of our lives.

Volunteer of the Month
Lauren Anderson
The Volunteer of the Month section is created to give special thanks to a volunteer each month.  Without dedicated volunteers, we could not save the number of animals that we do.

This month's Volunteer of the Month is Lauren Anderson.  Lauren was an instrumental piece in the May 2nd Tees & Tails and Wine & Wags event.  She dedicated herself to this event and made it a success!  Her hard work over the past months paid off immensely.  Her creativity, outgoing personality and overall drive gained the event a variety of media coverage, new donors, local followers and much more.  The event brought in over $5000.  This money helped us bring our shelter fund to $35,000.
Lauren lives in Belleville, Illinois and works as the Business and Customer Relations Coordinator for St. Louis Cardinals Publications.  Prior to working for the Cardinals, Lauren attended Southeast Missouri State University where she majored in Public Relations and minored in Spanish and Gerontology. She loves to run, play trivia, catch up on TIVO and attend concerts.

TRAIN!
Trainer's Corner

Our new "Trainer's Corner" feature will spotlight local trainer and GPG foster mom, Jamie Kelly as she discusses behavior issues that many of us experience.

-Now that the weather is nice, there are no more excuses for not exercising with your dog.  Not only do you both need the daily exercise, but dogs also need the mental stimulation that different sights, sounds and scents offer while walking.  Make it fun by varying the walk route.  Pack a light backpack with a blanket, water and snacks and walk to your neighborhood park and hang out with your dog for a while.

If you are having trouble controlling your dog on leash Lucky Dog Pet Services, LLC can help!  We offer certified positive reinforcement obedience and behavior modification group and private lessons.  Call Jamie Kelly @ 314-623-9879 and let's get walking!!

FOSTERS NEEDED!
Puppies are waiting.
 foster
Spring is here and that means numerous pregnant mamas and puppies on the streets of East St. Louis.  This month alone there are 6 puppies ready to be rescued, 3 pregnant dogs and 1 litter (not sure how many).

This is an important time of year for us.  Our goal is to rescue any and all puppies that we can in hopes to drive down the number of feral adults that they will grow into.  We also want to eliminate more females on the streets that will inevitably have more puppies for us to rescue.   Puppies are much easier than adults to place in forever homes.  This allows our foster homes to more readily available for more pups!  It is a vicious cycle and we need your help!
Fostering is an extremely rewarding way to help these homeless animals.  As a foster parent you will provide:
1.  A safe, loving environment for a puppy.
2.  Food for your puppy - GPG will help you with food if you need it.
3.  Transportation to veterinary visits - GPG pays for all vetting.
4.  Transportation to adoption events.

That's it!  Please visit our foster page for more information and to fill out a foster application.
