| Snuffy's Journey. |
|
Snuffy's journey is an interesting one. Snuffy was rescued in the spring of 2009. He was hairless and scared spending the first week of his new life in the hospital with the worse case of demodex mange Dr. Diesel has ever seen. In addition to the mange, Snuffy has numerous intestinal parasites and tested positive for heartworm. To view a short video of Snuffy when we first rescued him, CLICK HERE. It takes a very special person to foster a dog like Snuffy. GPG foster mom and certified trainer, Jamie Kelly took on the challenge and worked with Snuffy (or Snuggy as she likes to call him) daily. Jamie says "It wasn't long before he was sleeping on the bed with me and enjoying all the affection I could give him. "
He has made an amazing recovery and is living the lap of luxury in his forever home with his mom, Pat. Pat adopted Snuggy (she found this name more suitable for him.) in December 2009. Pat shares her thoughts and feelings about this wonderful rescue dog.
"I adopted Snuffy in December 2009 and he has made wonderful progress in the last several months he has lived in his new home. When he first came to live with my Mom and I, he was very afraid which I understood given his horrible life prior to being rescued by Pet Guardians. He was so afraid of every noise and wanted to hide all of the time. I spent time every day sitting by him, petting him, talking to him and started reading a book to him. He seemed very comfortable in my walk-in closet in my bedroom, so I put his bed and pillow in there. One night I was lying on the floor with him and was reading to him and he came up to me, put his head on my shoulder and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I was so excited and can't tell you how much that meant to me. It was almost like a turning point for both Snuffy and I. When I come home each evening from work, Snuffy now runs to the door to greet me and he is just as excited to see me as I am to see him. He is starting to come out of his shell more and more each day. He loves playing with his toys and is so excited when I bring a new toy home for him. He loves going for rides in the car. With time he has started to overcome many of his fears. He just completed a training class with Jamie Kelly and he did very well. Snuffy is just the sweetest little guy and I am so glad that he found a forever home with my Mom and I. I think he now knows that we love him and he will always be taken care of him. I am so happy that Pet Guardians rescued him from such a horrible situation and that he has such a great life now. It brought tears to my eyes when I read his story and saw pictures of him when he was first rescued. Now you cannot tell he was that same dog. Now he is just such a handsome boy!"

Our new "Trainer's Corner" feature will spotlight local trainer and GPG foster mom, Jamie Kelly as she discusses behavior issues that many of us experience.
-Lately, I've been approached by a few clients who are having problems with barrier or leash aggression. Their dogs are lunging, barking and snapping at other dogs while out walking on a leash. If you are experiencing similar behavior from your dog, here is some very good advice that addresses the problem.
If you feel you need private training to address this or any other behavioral problem,
please contact Jamie Kelly.
Basic obedience classes are also available at Delmar Doggie Design, 5860 Delmar Blvd.
