March's Featured Rescue
Eli

EliThis is Eli, he is beautiful and has not had the best of luck.   We are hoping that his luck is turning around.  He was found loose at 10 weeks old in North County.  He has been in Animal Control since then, he is now six months old.  That is too long to be in a wire kennel.
We are looking for that loving family who is going to show him the attention and compassion that he should have gotten from the beginning.  Eli is going to be a big boy!  He does great with his foster brothers and sisters and he wants all of the love and attention from his foster parents.
Eli loves to play.  He is also learning basic commands and manners.  He is very well behaved and has a calmness about him.  He will make a great addition on any family.  He is also crate and potty trained.
ELI WILL BE ON THE SET OF KSDK's SHOW ME ST. LOUIS MONDAY, MARCH 15th!  BE SURE TO WATCH THIS HANDSOME BOY!
If you are interested in adopting Eli, please email us at

Mixed Breed Art Auction was a huge success!
JulioGateway Pet Guardians' President, Amie Simmons held the first annual Mixed Breed Art Auction on February 28, 2010 at Schlafly Bottleworks.  The event was a huge success.  Over 25 artists from all of the country donated peices of art to the event.  The art was inspired by animals that have been rescued or are still on the streets.
With over 200 attendees, we were able to make a $5,000 contribution to our shelter fund.  Our goal is $100,000 in order to build the shelter needed to rescue more animals from the streets.

Hank's Journey.
Hank was rescued on January 29, 2010 in the dead of winter.  His fur frozen and with multiple wounds around his neck.  PJ had been feeding him for quite a few years and it was his time to be rescued.
On our Facebook Fan Page, we have been updating Hank's status.  If you aren't already fan, become one!
Here is the latest from Stacey, Hank's foster:
"Today, I called just Hank's name from the back door and he trotted up immediately from his bathroom break. He has also taken to following me around a bit when he wants to be petted - he's decided that this is pretty cool. He has adapted well to having a collar and is almost used to me giving his collar a little tug to encourage him in the doorway on cold days.... Thankfully, he is no longer hiding out under the back porch and needing to be lured inside with food. In fact, the entire food lure to come inside has been dropped.... That is with the exception of leash training, which sent him under the porch. We are practicing just having the leash on and walking around the house in circles. Slow, but sure progress.
Also, the other night when my boyfriend had his dog over - yes that would make three dogs - Hank decided he was going to join the two spoiled ones and check out the situation. Ron and I both immediately went silent as this sort of socialization is quite rare from Hank.
He loves to be brushed, so his coat is looking much, much better. There are more and more hints of red under that black back. His hair is starting to come back on his neck...so he's looking pretty good overall. I need to schedule a vet visit for the first part of march so we can start his heartworm treatment."

Our Shelter is Within Reach!
Help homeless animals by donating to Gateway Pet Guardians.
In order to make a huge impact on the homeless animal population, we need a shelter to temporarily house animals until we can place them in a foster home.  Our goal is $100,000.
Please help us reach this goal by the end of 2010!
Gateway Pet Guardians is a 501c3 organization.
