New Canaan Mounted TroopA Little Known Treasure!

Many residents don't know that New Canaan is home to the last remaining Junior Calvary in America.  Located at 22 Carter Street, New Canaan Mounted Troop (NCMT) was established in 1939 by noted horsewoman, author and educator Margaret Cabell Self. After 70 years in the original barn, NCMT recently built a brand new, state of the art facility that is home to 28 donated horses and ponies.

NCMT is a non-profit organization devoted to building leadership, responsibility and confidence in youth. It provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that emphasizes teamwork and follows a curriculum focused on horsemanship and equine care instruction.

NCMT offers a Youth Riding and Horsemanship Program and an Equine Care Program during the school year and a Summer Program to children 7 through 18. Children ride, learn fundamental equine care and learn about barn management tasks in a fun, safe and controlled environment.

For more information or to register for a program, contact Program Director Lisa Tomaselli at 203-966-0634 or visit the website.
