TOYS AND GIFTS FOR THE CHILDREN
This was our third year to partner with the local Applebees restaurant and their Christmas "Giving Tree" for children of Single Moms.  This year we collected and distributed gifts to over 100 children. We also had a local church that gave a gift to each mom, so she would have a special present.

In addition, we have a friend Vic who donated "handcarved" wooden rocking horses to give to some of the children.  We
took two of those horses to Shannon's Hope, a home that houses 13 pregnant women and their little ones.  We spent several days there last fall doing repair projects in their facility.  There is a phrase
that says;

"Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the Moments that take your
breath away"

That sums up how it felt when we gave the rocking horses to the children.  The joy and excitement on their faces that day was priceless.  God has truly placed wonderful people in our lives that bless and give so much.

One Day

Ready or not it's 2012, ready or not I turn 52 in a few short weeks and ready or not I found a little gray in my hair (let me reiterate just a little). As we all know time marches on and the big question always remains the same, what will we do with the time we have been given? You see time is a gift that we've been given to use to make history where ever our foot shall step. Read and ponder this quote from CS Lewis...

"We are not faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood - it ebbs. (to diminish or lessen in intensity)  We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, 'too late."

We have unfortunately all used the words like, one day, sooner or later, sometime, in the future or the dreaded someday. Regrettably these words far too often become our actions which have stolen  from us, our families and the world around us by hiding behind the notion of "One Day"

One day I'll apply for that new job or start my own business

One day I'll start saving money

One day I'll start praying, worshipping and reading more scripture

One day I'll start giving more of my time, talent and energy to those less fortunate

One day I'll start to get healthy or take that risk

One day ____________ (you fill in the blank)

"One day" may be the most dangerous and perilous words we can speak. Consider what CS Lewis wrote about and let's not allow the "too late" to sneak up and steal from us. 2012 can be your moment and this can be your time to achieve, engage and win. Remember knowledge is power but action gets things done. Go ahead and pull the trigger!

2012 is a big year for Be the Gift as well. As we expand and grow we need people of action that will bring their life to the threshold of adventure and accomplishment and help change the world for single moms and their children. There is a place for everyone who says yes, who will say "I'll help make history a positive, faithful and blessed time to be alive." Remember, we were created by God to be "His hands, His feet and His mouthpiece". You can choose to be that person of action and the miracle in someone's life.

We look forward to 2012 with each of you--- our Be the Gift Family.

We are gearing up and assembling our volunteers for many more home repair projects this year.  If you know of a single mom that can use our assistance, we would love to meet her. Please send us an email or refer her to our website www.bethegift.net where she can apply for assistance.

We love hearing from you, keep in touch. We pray for you and thank you for being in our lives.  Chris and Marilyn Johnson
