The Father is the heart of God
Jesus is the face of God
Holy Spirit is the voice of God
And we are the hands of God
I heard this from a prominent speaker. Now there is nothing here that any of us may find as earth shaking to our theology. Yet I found myself pondering this statement. Not just to me as a Christian but to the world around me. What does it mean that we are the hands of God and why is that? We identify our hands as an extension of God into the community and lives around us. But why is it so important for us to understand our Christian role in life? Because in many instances, we are the first step for the countless people that God has put around us in recognizing there is a God who loves them. So to just be a church attendee is like a worker who just stands around with his hands in his pockets. You're there, but not much use.
We as Christians ultimately want everyone to know, feel and live in the heart of God. But to get to the heart of God, people need to see the face of God...Jesus. Because we know He is the way, the truth and life. And to see the face of God, they need to hear from God through the Holy Spirit. To be open and to help them recognize the voice of God people need a touch from the hands of God...which is all of us. I'll wrap it up in one sentence
To know us is the start of knowing God.
So what do people know about God by knowing you?
We have a larger part to play in life than we realize. When they asked Jesus what is the greatest commandment He said, "To love your God with everything that's within you and then love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:28-31) Why? Because to have a touch from the hands of God means they feel the love of God, which opens them up to hear the voice of God and understand the need for Jesus in their life, which in turns leads them to the heart of God.
