"You have not lived until you have done something
for someone who cannot repay you." John Bunyon
We had a young Single Mom share at our meeting about her life of struggles and disappointments. She at one point felt God had abandoned her, yet has found HIS strength again as she puts her life and the life of her children back together following a suicide in her family. She cried when she shared about how the people of BTG helped in her time of need. It was just a few things- paint, fixing a few holes, backyard repair and we prayed and encouraged her. She went on to explain how she could never repay us for all that we had done for her. At that time my friend Howard said, "You just did." He said after hearing her story, "I'd do anything for her and others like her."
As with any service or outreach, it can be an issue of how to motivate people to get involved and give of their resources. To inspire without coming across as pushy. To ask for some of their time and skills, without being insensitive to their personal calendar. To find ways to raise and request money without appearing as begging or making it the main issue. However ALL of these are required and needed from everyone to effectively change and impact a life including our own.
Yet as each of us had tears in our eyes listening to this
young Mom share, we had our answer.
Our inspiration comes from the knowledge that Jesus with unconditional love died on the cross without asking for repayment. So let this be our motivation...We'll never really feel alive, we'll never really experience a Christ-like life or a life of significance until we put into practice how Jesus lived and what John Bunyon expressed. "You have not lived until you have done something for someone who cannot repay you." |
