Will you pull the trigger?
Do you ever wonder how we as people choose the right time to help someone. What are the deciding factors for people when choosing to bless another life? What will it take for each of us to "pull the trigger" in living a life of significance for others. Is it a time factor? If we just have enough time in life, then I know I would give some time to someone. Is it a financial factor? If we just have enough resources, then I know I would give to someone. Is it a direction factor? If we just knew for sure that we are on the right path and direction in life, then I know we would show up for someone. Actually, these are all legitimate questions to ask, but there is one very important question that Jesus poses.
In John 21, Jesus visits Peter who after some traumatic events in his life, choose to go fishing. Peter was disappointed in some of his decisions, in some of his actions and that he betrayed his best friend. He retreated and went back to a life he knew and was comfortable with. One morning Jesus showed up and fixed breakfast for Peter, then called on him to feed His sheep and lambs of the world. You see, Jesus didn't ask about Peter's financial state, if he had any spare time or any other circumstance of life. The question Jesus simply asked was this, "Peter, do you love me"? Why? Because answering that question distinguishes Peter from having a heart that will follow after Him or having a heart that will follow else where. It's the deciding factor in Peter's life if this is the right time to help someone. Here is the kicker, Jesus is still asking that question today and depending on how we answer it will also determine where our heart and life is headed. It's the deciding factor of a Christian life, do you love Him? Then help His lambs and sheep of the world! |
