We realize that God's plan for this world flows through volunteers. Jesus called His disciples to come and follow Him, He basically asked them, hey guys will you put your work on hold for a little bit (maybe a lot) and volunteer to follow this dream and mission of mine that God the Father has instructed me to do? Throughout history it has been fisherman, carpenters, doctors, tentmakers, religious leaders, government workers, builders, students, engineers, teachers, and the list goes on and on that have taken God's plan and changed the world. Most people will say, I want to somehow make a positive difference in people and the world around me. I don't want to be eighty years old and feel like I have wasted my opportunities. Then each person (volunteer) throughout history and today goes through the same process and asks,
What is the risk, responsibility and reward with each and every opportunity?
1. There is a RISK - What will it cost you in terms of time, money and effort - because you never know exactly what is expected of you (the disciples didn't). You wonder, do I have the ability or expertise to fulfill what is asked of me? But you know deep inside that God is calling you to make a difference in this world and yet to do this,
you will have to take a risk!!
2. There is RESPONSIBILITY - Even though people may say, "I'm just a volunteer", each person is responsible for their work, their words and their time. Volunteers are leaders and bring energy, excitement and passion into each new opportunity. Why? because God asked us to do our best in everything we put hands to in life. It says in Col 3;23
"Whatever you do , do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men"
3. There are REWARDS - These rewards are different for each person. What I do know for sure is that every volunteer will have their life changed in some way. Serving or volunteering always changes the heart of the server or the one who helps. Every person who has gone with us to help the orphans in Kenya or helped locally with a single parent always says the same thing; My life was impacted and changed more than the ones we went to help. You see as you move through life, there are many things and opportunities that may catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart. So this issue is dedicated to all the volunteers who have helped change the world, blessed Marilyn and me and Be the Gift through the generous giving of your time, abilities, energy and love. It is you that has made BTG so much fun and a kick to be part of. Give us a call or e-mail us, we would love to hear from you. THANK YOU! Love and God Bless!!! Chris and Marilyn
