"Glimpses of Holland from the Portfolios of Gari Melchers"
Now through November 18

Gari Melchers (American, 1860-1932)
Sketch of Landscape with Canal and Windmills, undated
|
From his earliest visit to the Netherlands, painter Gari Melchers came under the spell of its picturesque countryside and inhabitants. All that was required for inspiration was to step out the front door of his studio. The simple ways of the Dutch, revolving around work, worship and family, were subjects enough for a lifetime, and a lifetime it very nearly was. On display will be a selection of fifty intimate first impressions drawn from his portfolios and collection of preliminary oil sketches and studies.
Included with admission; free for Friends of Belmont
