| Volunteer Spotlight |
| | Karen Anderson |
I chose the Belmont trails to do most of my Master Gardening volunteer hours because I am obsessed with learning all I can about trees and native species. They are my first passion, I guess. I love hiking and taking nature walks in the woods, and the butterfly and vegetable gardens are the cherry on top. The folks I work with are top class, and I enjoy that Belmont has a lot of history too. So it's a good fit for me, and I really have a lot of fun.
Thank you Karen! |
| Gallery Update | | Pavilion Gallery Features New Acquisitions
| | John Donaldson |
A new selection of works on paper by Gari Melchers, many of which are rarely on view, is now on display in the studio pavilion gallery. Included are two recent acquisitions, pastel portraits of Melchers' Detroit friend and studio architect, John M. Donaldson and his wife Charlotte, gifts of their granddaughter, Mrs. Joan D. Weber.
Shown with the portraits is one of Donaldson's early concept drawings for the studio from the Belmont archives. The pencil drawing shows floor plans and elevations that were changed once construction began, most notably the substitution of large skylights for the smaller dormers in the original design.
