Stuffed Eggplant (Middle Eastern)
from Stone Soup a cookbook published by Didi Ruchira 1994

serves 4 - 6
4                   medium eggplants, washed and dried, leave the stalks on
6 Tbsp           olive oil
2                   green peppers, sliced thin
2                   tomatoes, sliced
45 ml            3 Tbsp    tomato puree
10 ml            2 tsp       salt
5 ml              1 tsp       allspice
30 ml            2 Tbsp    parsley
3 ml              ½ tsp      cayenne
130 ml          2 Tbsp    cooking oil
450 ml          water

Make a slit about 5 cm long down each eggplant. Salt the insides and leave for 15 minutes. Heat the olive oil and add the sliced tomatoes, puree, slat and spices. Cook for 5 minutes, add the parsley. Rinse the eggplant under cold running water. Pat dry with a paper towel. Heat the cooking oil, add the eggplant and fry gently, turning them several times. Don't spoil the shape. Remove from the pan and set in an oven dish with the slits uppermost. Carefully prise the slits open and fill with the tomato mixture. Add water to any remaining mixture and pour over the eggplants. Bake at 190° C for 1 hour. Garnish with parsley and serve.

Big Pharma lies about statin drugs finally exposed in British Medical Journal

To hear Big Pharma tell it, statin drugs are "miracle" medicines that have prevented millions of heart attacks and strokes. But a recent study published in the British Medical Journal tells a completely different story: For every heart attack prevented by the drug, two or more people suffered liver damage, kidney failure, cataracts or extreme muscle weakness as a result of taking the drug.

Statin drugs, in other words, harm far more people than they help.

Julia Hippisley-Cox and Carol Coupland led the study which examined data from over two million patients, including over 225,000 patients who were new statin drug users.

They found that for every 10,000 women being treated with statins, there were only 271 fewer cases of heart disease.

And yet, at the same time, the statin drugs caused 74 cases of liver damage, 23 cases of acute kidney failure, 39 cases of extreme muscle weakness and 307 cases of cataracts.

Statin drugs, in other words, helped 271 people but harmed 443 people. This demonstrates how they are wreaking havoc with the health of those who take them, causing damage that far outweighs any benefit they might offer.

Big Pharma's highly deceptive advertising implies that statin drugs help everyone who takes them. So if 10,000 people took the drugs, we're promised, heart attacks would be prevented in all 10,000 people. That's the implied message in the drug ads, anyway.

But this is just a wild exaggeration and distortion of the facts. Most drugs don't work on most people, and statin drugs only "work" on about 2.7% of those who take them. Yet they cause serious damage in about 4.4% of those who take them.

So if you take statin drugs, your odds of benefiting from them is less than 3 out of 100. But your odds of being harmed by them are more than 4 out of 100. For 96 out of 100 people, statin drugs do nothing except make the drug companies rich and pollute the waterways every time you flush the toilet.

Statin drugs, then, are basically a crap shoot with your health.

Keep the pharma profits rolling
From the point of view of Big Pharma, they have the added benefit of causing other diseases that often result in yet more drugs or medical procedures being prescribed. Kidney dialysis makes big money for hospitals, by the way. It's a multi-billion-dollar business all by itself. Statin drugs are therefore a way for the sick-care industry to recruit new patients into kidney dialysis, knowing that some percentage of statin drug users are going to end up with full-blown kidney failure.

What's really interesting about all this is how easy it is to fool doctors into prescribing statin drugs. Doctors mistakenly think these are miracle drugs, but they're never read the research. They've been convinced by drug reps, misleading medical journal articles and Big Pharma advertising -- and they bought it!

Mainstream doctors, you see, are perhaps the most gullible people on the planet. They'll gladly prescribe a drug that harms more people than it helps -- by the millions -- because they can be almost effortlessly swayed into pushing poison pills through "science babble" language used by drug companies to promote their pills.

Doctors are literally walking around today thinking statin drugs are such miracle lifesavers that some doctors openly talked about dripping the drug into the public water supply! That's how convinced they are about the drug's benefits. They think everyone should be taking statins whether they need them or not!

It's downright loony. But that's characteristic of western medicine, isn't it? Proclaim your poison to be "miracle medicine" while utterly ignoring the truth that those drugs harm far more people than they help (and they simply don't work on more than 90% of people who take them).

The statin scam
Statin drugs are a scam, plain and simple, and the doctors who prescribe them are puppets used by Big Pharma to sell high-profit drugs to people who for the most part won't even benefit from them. That this research exposing the truth about statin drugs even appeared in the British Medical Journal is a minor miracle all by itself, by the way. But it does indicate that the wall of lies constructed about statins by Big Pharma is starting to crack.

If the truth about statins were openly known, the drugs wouldn't be prescribed to anyone, and drug companies would be sued for billions of dollars for their false advertising and marketing manipulations.

Until that happens, just remember this: Any doctor who recommends a statin drug is a con man drug pusher. If they don't have the honesty to research the truth about these drugs and stop prescribing them, they certainly cannot be trusted with your health. If they're pushing statin drugs on you, they're really just working for Big Pharma, not for you, and they're not interested in real science and the real impacts of drugs on patients.

It brings up another hugely important question in modern medicine: Why don't doctors have the capability to question the false beliefs of their own industry? As you might have guessed, that's the topic of another story altogether.

Scientists find way of testing toiletries without using animals

A simple and effective way to assess the safety of soaps, shampoos and other toiletries is just around the corner - and it doesn't involve testing on animals. Many consumers boycott toiletries that are tested on animals - but soon they won't have to read the label because these tests will become a thing of the past. Scientists have developed a simple and inexpensive way to test if toiletries cause skin allergies and irritations, and one that does not involve the use of laboratory animals.

The use of the homeopathic method in agriculture was introduced with Agro-homeopathy, which allows one to influence biological processes of plants to either accelerate or delay growth. Moreover, it can contribute to the control of plagues and diseases, directly promoting increased production.

In agriculture, homeopathic nosodes and autonosodes can assist in controlling plagues and diseases by use of the same disease of the plant, the plant damaged by the plague, or even the actual plague. Nosodes used in humans and animals are defined as homeopathic remedies prepared from diseased tissue or the product of disease, but are not defined chemically. Nosodes can be derived from animal, human or plant products. They can be complex compounds (of pathological secretions or excretions, infected tissues or causal organisms) or simple compounds (such as pure microbial or viral cultures).

Possibilities in agriculture
Utilizing homeopathic dynamizations on plants guarantees non-toxicity, because their mode of preparation assures that plants will in no way be contaminated. Agro-homeopathy is a win- win solution for farmers. They can use this method with confidence that it will neither damage the organism, the soil nor the plants.

Autonosodes represent the most immediate way to extend the use of homeopathy to farmers. They only require the plant damaged by the disease or plague, along with bottles and alcohol with which to prepare the dynamization. It is an easy, uncomplicated and immediate process that counters the damage caused by the plague or disease.

Agro-homeopathy has enormous potential as it covers the majority of crops and enables crop abundance and nutritive yields. Therefore further investigations must be performed to strengthen the advances already achieved in developing this science.

Important benefits of agrohomeopathy include economic savings and preservation of the natural ecology. Agro-homeopathy can reduce costs from agrochemicals, and it will not damage the organism, the ground under the plant or its surrounding area and the water that serves as the solvent in the dynamizations.

To elaborate further , the mother tincture is generally produced in an hydro-alcoholic solution of 87%. Dynamizations use 87% alcohol as a solvent, which if applied to the plant as is, would be toxic. That is why in agrohomeopathy we use distilled, boiled, tap or irrigation water in the two last dynamizations. This helps guarantee that there is no toxicity to the plant. The therapeutic effect is due to the initial substance of the mother tincture and the process of dynamization. This also reduces the costs.

Summarizing, the low costs of homeopathic potencies are represented by the following aspects:
The initial substance can be from the same disease of the plant, or from insects which attack the plant when an autonosode is produced. This minimizes costs because the farmer usually has the disease plant on his parcel of land. Dynamizations are generally produced in 87% alcohol, which is used to conserve the characteristics of the substance from which the dynamizations are prepared, but they can also be produced in water (with the exception of the mother tincture, when it is used immediately and if no further dynamizations are required).

The preparations can also be made in pure cane alcohol of 96%, expediting the production. The effect is the same whether produced in pure cane alcohol (96%) or in an hydro-alcoholic solution of 87%. Homeopathic dynamizations are not limited to the potency of 12CH. In general, low dynamizations (6CH), medium (12CH and 30CH) and high potencies (200CH, 1000CH, 10000CH) are used in humans, and are available commercially. Therefore, if a high dynamization is required, the producer will only be limited by the costs of commercial potencies. A tangential link to the savings is the increase in production volume due to the diminished damage caused by plagues and diseases.

The peculiarities of homeopathy and agro-homeopathy are: the theoretical foundation based upon natural therapeutic principles and the procedure that is in accordance with these principles. Prepared on these principles and with this procedure, homeopathy is able to heal diseases in humans, as well as solve health and nutrition problems in plants.

If there exists a certain analogy between the response of plants and of humans to dynamizations, then it must be considered that low potencies (6CH, 9CH) are to be applied for acute symptoms and damages in plants, medium potencies (12CH, 30CH) for problems with the tendency to a certain chronicity, especially in fruit trees. In some cases, these analogies can be applied; however, the zigzag effect requires more investigation into recognizing which dynamizations act most energetically. Thus, achieving the biological optimum does not necessarily correspond with the application of how low or high potencies are used in humans.

Agro-homeopathy in the ecological environment is harmless for the user. This is important, due to the fact that the use of agrochemicals and especially pesticides, frequently causes injury and sometimes death of farm workers. It is inhumane to use these chemicals if it is known that a poison can be inhibited by the same poison when it has been prepared homeopathically, and therefore, one can avoid injury and death of many humans. Agro-homeopathy and homeopathic potencies do not contaminate land or people and help support the regeneration of the ecosystem. The ground on which the potencies are applied is not at risk of increasing its salinity; the potencies do not injure micro flora and fauna, or the aquifer mantles.

Agrohomeopathy can also reverse damage already present in the ground because of the use of fertilizers or pesticides, or excessive salinity. There is already scientifically verified evidence supporting the relevancy of applying dynamizations to plants before and during sowing, or directly on the ground.

If the current agricultural practices in Mexico continue , then in the future Mexicans will be more dependent on the health industry, thereby allowing America to exercise greater control over Mexico, not only as an underdeveloped country, but also as a country dependent on medicines produced by transnational companies.

How to use homeopathic products in agriculture?
· Add one drop of the product to one liter of water, shake forcefully for one minute. Spread this dilution by means of an aerosol upon the plants.
· For backpacks or major volumes take this prepared liter and mix it with the water in the container.
· Seeds can be treated by immersing them in this solution for 20 minutes.

Some practical recommendations for the use of homeopathic remedies with plants:

Use Home Remedies to Quickly and Safely Eliminate Athlete's Foot
Athlete's foot is an infection of the feet caused by a fungus. The affected area is usually red and itchy and the most common symptom is cracked, flaking, peeling skin between the toes. Left untreated, the condition may last for a short or long time and may return again and again. However, there are several effective home and natural remedies that can quickly clear up athlete's foot and prevent it from returning.

One sure-fire home remedy is to use a combination of apple cider vinegar, water, colloidal silver and moisturizer. Soak your feet in one part white vinegar and four parts water for 20-30 minutes. Dry your feet and apply colloidal silver over the entire foot, being sure to get in between the toes. Allow to air dry thoroughly and then apply a good moisturizer, such as the oil found in crushed garlic from the grocery store. Other good choices are tea tree oil, sesame oil and olive oil.

The combination of vinegar and colloidal silver kills the athlete's foot fungus and the moisturizer helps the skin heal. Repeat the procedure twice daily and your athlete's foot should be gone in a matter of days. To prevent future outbreaks of athlete's foot, repeat the above remedy once each week. Note: colloidal silver is optional, but it helps speed the remedy and makes it more effective.

Other common remedies are:

* Apply hydrogen peroxide with a cotton swab - especially just after a bath, shower or foot soak. Allow to dry. If you wish, you may follow with an application of apple cider vinegar and then, after your feet have dried, apply one of the moisturizers mentioned above. Repeat twice daily until all signs of athlete's foot are gone.

* Pour baking soda on the affected feet and between the toes after showers, bathing or foot soaks to help dry the area and eliminate dampness. Powder the area daily until the infection is gone and continue doing so for at least a month.

* After thoroughly washing the feet, dry the feet well with a hair dryer on the high heat setting. Be sure to dry the areas between the toes thoroughly and get as close to the feet as you can without burning. If you dress afterward, use clean dry socks (preferably cotton socks). Do this morning and evening. If you regularly blow dry your feet, you should never have athlete's foot again.

* A wonderful old time remedy is known as "Grandma's Gallberry Root Remedy" - Boil some gallberry roots and soak your feet in the solution after it has cooled enough to prevent scalding. Repeat every day for one week.

* Rub tea tree oil on feet twice a day. Tea tree oil kills the fungus that causes athlete's feet. Similarly, sesame oil rubbed over the infected area once or twice a day has been reported to eliminate athlete's foot within a few days.

* Regular tea has been used effectively against athlete's foot. Use a quart of boiling water, add six tea bags and soak your feet in it for 30 to 60 minutes. The tannic acid in tea kills the fungus and soothes the pain and itchy feeling on the skin.

Notes: Be sure to wash all your white socks in water containing bleach. Then wash your other socks and wash or clean your shoes regularly and allow them to dry thoroughly.

Avoid using anti-bacterial soap, which may actually increase the chance of getting athlete's foot by killing the good bacteria and by allowing bad bacteria to take over and to accumulate and grow in the shower.

Raw tahini, organic sun-dried figs and my health products philosophy
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Tahini is one of the favorite foods used by vegans, raw foodies and everyday health-conscious people. But not everyone is familiar with tahini. What is it, exactly?

Just like peanut butter is made from grinding up peanuts, tahini is made from grinding up sesame seeds! It is essentially sesame seed butter, with all the beneficial nutritional properties of sesame seeds.

Tahini is used by food enthusiasts to make all sorts of amazing recipes, from salad dressings and dips to cookies. You can use it to make a glazing for baked tofu, or add it to garbanzo beans to make a delicious hummus. You can even use it in veggie burger recipes (mix it with black beans and mushrooms).

Tahini is extremely versatile due to its complementary taste that seems to go well in both sweet and salty foods.

Three Homeopathic Treatments Help Acid Reflux Symptoms and GERD

Acid reflux is characterized by pain and burning in the esophagus as a result of food and stomach acids backing up in to the esophagus damaging its lining. Homeopathic medicines work to relieve gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD symptoms by initiating the body's innate response to a stimulus or to an irritation allowing the body to heal itself. Homeopathy offers a selection of remedies to relieve symptoms of acid reflux and GERD.

Nux Vomica: The Penultimate Acid Reflux Treatment
According to acclaimed homeopath William Boericke, in his "Materia Medica and Repertory", Nux Vomica helps relieve acid reflux symptoms when there are stomach pains of all types, including burning, bloating, flatulence, constipation, nausea and belching from overeating or eating hot and spicy foods. There may be body aches of all kinds and feelings of weakness. The person needing Nux Vomica is generally perceived as a workaholic or one who indulges his or her appetite for excesses in all things. The patient tends to be dictatorial, bossy, impatient and aggressive.

Arsenicum Album: GERD Symptoms Caused by Spoiled Food or Food Poisoning
Boericke points out if the person has severe burning pains from acid in the stomach with food backing up into the esophagus accompanied by burning pain all the way up to the throat, arsenicum will help. There may be severe, watery, burning, yellow diarrhea with terrible burning in the rectum and anus. Most pains are better after drinking hot drinks like tea or applying warm applications to the painful abdomen. The person needing arsenicum may be thirsty for continual sips of cool water, restless, anxious and fearful. Arsenicum is often the ideal remedy for treating acid reflux symptoms and other abdominal pain due to ingesting spoiled food resulting in food poisoning.

Pulsatilla: Relief from Reflux Symptoms and GERD with Weeping
Pulsatilla relieves acid reflux pains that feel like digestive acid is burning a hole in the lining of the stomach. The patient may experience much flatulence at the same time from putrefaction emitting gasses. Pulsatilla helps relieve acid reflux symptoms when the person feels over-stuffed after eating and wants to loosen the belt for relief after a meal. Pulsatilla is indicated for GERD symptoms when the patient is weepy, desires company and abhors being left alone. It is prescribed more commonly for women than men. The person is not thirsty, often feels warm and prefers open, cool air or going outside.

Additional homeopathic remedies are available that relieve a variety of GERD symptoms or prevent the causes of acid reflux. The three mentioned here are the most common and are effective in a majority of cases. Consult with a qualified homeopath for additional recommendations if needed to relieve reflux symptoms. Following an acid reflux diet may help prevent the majority of symptoms associated with GERD.
