Autism has Reached Crisis Proportions

Autism was first brought forth to the public's attention in the 1950's. Since then, it has been rising steadily. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently released that today 1 in 110 children are autistic. More alarming is the fact that on December 18, 2009, it reported that autism increased by 57% in the last four years.

Most experts attribute the cause of autism to be unknown, defining it as a combination of genetic and environmental factors. However, there has been much controversy as to what, indeed, is responsible for our children not being able to communicate, form relationships, and/or respond to their surroundings.

The most popular of these controversies is vaccines, pointing directly to the Mumps-Measles-Rubella vaccine and the mercury based preservative, thimerosal. Other theories include:

Genetics
Atypical Brain Development
Immune Deficiency Disorder
Food Allergies
Poor Nutrition
Complications During Delivery
Environmental Toxins
Exposure to Heavy Metals

Experts explain the reason for this dramatic increase with the fact that they are more able to easily diagnose this disorder. However, those advocating more research state that the alarming rate at which this disorder is growing simply cannot be explained away. The statistics have grown from 1 in 5,000 children 20 years ago to 1 in 100 today. This points the finger to environmental factors such as vaccines and environmental toxins to the very foods we eat.

The conventional approach to autism says there is no cure, at times addressing the behavioral aspects of the condition with such drugs such as Ritalin, Prozac, and Risperdal. However, there are several natural alternatives that have shown great promise, improving overall health and behavior without the use of dangerous drugs.

A common factor in children with autism is low levels of gluthathione, as well as an overall improperly functioning detoxification process. Testing will determine the level of toxic heavy metals which can be removed with chelators. Additionally, care should be taken to avoid environmental toxins.

Another fact to take into consideration is that another common thread is digestive disorders, such as leaky gut and imbalances in the beneficial intestinal bacteria, leading to food allergies. This can be addressed by supplementing the body to replace nutritional deficiencies, including supplements focusing on digestive and immune functions. Autism is also associated with a weakened immune system.

Studies have shown that Vitamin D supplementation is extremely beneficial for the autistic child.

Autistic children respond favorably to dietary changes. Offending foods are dairy, gluten, sugar, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring agents, and hydrogenated oils.

There are no specific tests for autism. Diagnosis is made by observing a child's behavior. Parents are often the ones to first realize that their child is not responding according to age level. Autism can present itself in the form of mild social impairment to more serious communication and behavioral issues.

Education and prevention is the key to minimizing these numbers. Becoming aware of the dangers of vaccines, toxins, and unnatural ingredients found in today's foods can go a long way in controlling the rise of this disorder.

Although it can be devastating for parents to receive a diagnosis of autism, natural alternatives can make a distinct difference in the lives of these children.

Use Mullein Verbascum to Heal Ear Aches and Ulcers

The Verbascum or Mullein family of plants is one of the oldest known medicinal plants. They have been used in herbal medicine around the world for inflammation in many parts of the body, including the lungs, the ears, the kidneys and the pelvis. The plant originated in Europe and was brought to North America by early settlers, who relied on its healing properties to treat both cough and diarrhea. It now grows in the wild, in fields and along roadsides across America.

The plant has been used to treat everything from sunburn and toothache, to rheumatism, tuberculosis, ulcers, eczema, deafness, hay fever, hemorrhoids, herpes, cystitis, and warts. Mullein is thought to be antibacterial and antiviral and even to have anticancer activity. It is a diuretic, expectorant, astringent, sedative and a demulcent.

The Latin names for the medicinal plants in the mullein family are Verbascum Thapsus, Verbascum pholmoides, and Verbascum thapsiforme. It has many colorful folk names, such as candlewick, beggar's stalk, our lady's flannel, flannel leaf, Peter's staff, velvet plant, wild ice leaf, rag paper, wooly mullein, and shepard's club.

Mullein can be applied externally to aid in the healing of tumors, hemorrhoids, and ulcers. A powder made from the roots can be sued to remove warts. Though much research has not confirmed mullein's claims on healing, many mothers know the soothing balm of mullein oil drops to calm earaches in otitis media. The oil is created by an infusion of the mullein flowers placed into olive oil.

Mullein has been used as a flavoring and is approved as such by the FDA as of 2005. There are no reports of any side effects from ingesting Mullein, but the plant does contain coumarin and a sapotoxin called rotenone which is an insecticide. Because of these ingredients, mullein is not recommended for those taking anticoagulants. Some people are allergic to the Scrophulariaceae or (figwort) family, of which mullein is a part.

Concerns about the effect of coumarin on the liver and potential liver toxicity have been sited, but evidence is lacking. Instead, there are the hundreds of years of recognized healing benefit brought by this mighty family of herbs.

Window cleaning chemical injected into fast food hamburger meat

If you're in the beef business, what do you do with all the extra cow parts and trimmings that have traditionally been sold off for use in pet food? You scrape them together into a pink mass, inject them with a chemical to kill the e.coli, and sell them to fast food restaurants to make into hamburgers.

That's what's been happening all across the USA with beef sold to McDonald's, Burger King, school lunches and other fast food restaurants, according to a New York Times article. The beef is injected with ammonia, a chemical commonly used in glass cleaning and window cleaning products.

This is all fine with the USDA, which endorses the procedure as a way to make the hamburger beef "safe" enough to eat. Ammonia kills e.coli, you see, and the USDA doesn't seem to be concerned with the fact that people are eating ammonia in their hamburgers.

This ammonia-injected beef comes from a company called Beef Products, Inc. As NYT reports, the federal school lunch program used a whopping 5.5 million pounds of ammonia-injected beef trimmings from this company in 2008. This company reportedly developed the idea of using ammonia to sterilize beef before selling it for human consumption.

Aside from the fact that there's ammonia in the hamburger meat, there's another problem with this company's products: The ammonia doesn't always kill the pathogens. Both e.coli and salmonella have been found contaminating the cow-derived products sold by this company.

This came as a shock to the USDA, which had actually exempted the company's products from pathogen testing and product recalls. Why was it exempted? Because the ammonia injection process was deemed so effective that the meat products were thought to be safe beyond any question.

What else is in there?
As the NYT reports, "The company says its processed beef, a mashlike substance frozen into blocks or chips, is used in a majority of the hamburger sold nationwide. But it has remained little known outside industry and government circles. Federal officials agreed to the company's request that the ammonia be classified as a 'processing agent' and not an ingredient that would be listed on labels."

Fascinating. So you can inject a beef product with a chemical found in glass cleaning products and simply call it a "processing agent" -- with the full permission and approval of the USDA, no less! Does anyone doubt any longer how deeply embedded the USDA is with the beef industry?

Apparently, this practice of injecting fast food beef with ammonia has been a well-kept secret for years. I never knew this was going on, and this news appears to be new information to virtually everyone. The real shocker is that "a majority" of fast food restaurants use this ammonia-injected cow-derived product in their hamburger meat. It sort of makes you wonder: What else is in there that we don't know about?

"School lunch officials and other customers complained about the taste and smell of the beef," says the NYT. No wonder. It's been pumped full of chemicals.

There are already a thousand reasons not to eat fast food. Make this reason number 1,001. Ammonia. It's not supposed to be there.

You can get the same effect by opening a can of dog food made with beef byproducts, spraying it with ammonia, and swallowing it. That is essentially what you're eating when you order a fast food burger.

It's almost enough to make you want to puke. If you do so, please aim it at your windows, because ammonia cuts through grease like nothing else, leaving your windows squeaky clean!

Cure Cervical Cancer through Diet, Yoga and Meditation

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women and almost 4,000 cases were fatal just last year. Conventional treatments for cervical cancer such as chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, hysterectomy, or the removal of lymph nodes and ovaries can often leave the woman infertile. However, alternatives exist for women who seek a more holistic approach to improving their bodies' responses to cancer. Cervical cancer can be remedied in ways alternative to conventional, damaging treatments. Instead of harsh treatments that can wreak havoc on the body, a combination of yoga, meditation, and a raw vegan diet can be a much more gentle and beneficial method for healing.

A raw vegan diet, for instance, is based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds, sprouts, grains, nuts, beans, and seaweed. Raw foods and juices deliver pure, powerful nutrients straight to your system and are full of antioxidants and enzymes, which are vital to good health. Antioxidants, for example, reduce the cellular by-products of free radicals, which can lead to cancer. According to Leslie Kenton, author of Raw Energy, "Doctors and scientists confirm that raw diets not only prevent colds and flu and retard aging, but they can also help to cure cancer, diabetes, ulcers and arthritis."

When Amanda Deming learned she had cervical cancer from her pap smear results, she revised the way she prepared and ate food, instead of getting surgery to remove the cancerous cells. Not only did Deming decide against conventional treatment and chose to heal her body naturally, but she became a raw food chef, as well. "I think that you are what you eat and whatever you put into your body is definitely going to manifest. If you`re eating foods on a higher vibration, you`re going to run on a higher vibration," said Deming.

In addition to what you put in your body, it is also valuable to pay attention to how you treat your body. Yoga, including kundalini yoga, which focuses on awareness and chakra balancing, reduces stress and combats life-threatening conditions like cancer. For instance, yoga and meditation help cancer patients to use their breath to heal the body. According to Deming, "I think once you get into meditation, you`re able to listen to your body and you are actually more in tune to everything that`s going on around you--especially from within."

Deming, like many other yoga practitioners, learned to use her own body to heal itself. Today, she is cancer-free and is a certified yoga teacher, raw food chef, massage therapist and singer. "I plan to live a long and healthy life full of positive energy, vibrant foods, great people and just be happy, healthy and holy." Cervical cancer can be a formidable obstacle and life-threatening deterrence, but it need not be a nonnegotiable battle with one's body, as Deming's case affirms. Through the use of meditation and yoga, in addition to adopting a raw food diet, one may even emerge stronger, healthier, and wiser.

Carotenoids in veggies and fruits improve eyesight and prevent eye diseases

Countless moms have told their children to eat their veggies -- especially carrots -- in order to help their eyesight. It turns out that "old wives' tale" is actually sound science. According to a study just published in the Journal of Food Science, a publication of the Institute of Food Technologists, the phytonutrients known as carotenoids not only may prevent age-related eye diseases but they've also been found to improve vision.

Carotenoids are the yellow, orange, and red pigments synthesized by plants and found in many colored vegetables and fruits. Some of the most common carotenoids found in plant-rich diets include alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene.

Scientists from the University of Georgia evaluated data from multiple studies to investigate the effects of two carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, on visual performance. These particular carotenoids have been shown to play an important role in human vision, including helping to keep the retina healthy. The light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the inner eye, the retina works much like film in a camera and is critical for good eyesight. Images that come through the lens of the eye are focused on the retina which then converts these images to electric signals and sends them along the optic nerve to the brain.

Dr. Billy R. Hammond Jr. and his research team concluded that lutein and zeaxanthin have specific beneficial effects on visual performance. Their study found lutein and zeaxanthin can reduce disability and discomfort from glare, enhance contrast, and increase the visual range. Simply put, the phytonutrients improve vision. In addition, the carotenoids were found to reduce recovery time from photostress (how long it takes the retina to return to normal function after exposure to a flash of light). In a study published last year, Dr. Hammond Jr. also reported that adequate intake of lutein and zeaxanthin early in life could help the development of a healthy, normal visual system in children.

In a statement to the media, Dr. Hammond Jr. noted the effects of lutein and zeazanthin are important because "it is clear that they could potentially improve vision through biological means. For example, a study conducted in 2008 suggests that the pigments protect the retina and lens and perhaps even help prevent age-related eye diseases such as macular degeneration and cataract."

As NaturalNews has previously reported, researchers have recently documented that a host of foods and nutrients may protect eye health and vision. For example, fish, nuts and olive oil have been found to prevent help prevent age-related blindness (http://www.naturalnews.com/026369_o...).
