15 Greatest Medical Myths

The following list includes the biggest health, nutritional, and medical lies, deceit, deceptions and inventions that we have been told by a doctor, a nurse, a scientist, a teacher, a nutritionist, a health guru, a pharmaceutical company, the American Medical Association, the American Cancer Society, the Center of Disease Control and/or the World Health Organization, just to name a few.
Myth 1) The Flu vaccine will protect you from the flu virus. This is a falsehood. There is no such thing as a flu virus, and, therefore, there is no need for a poisonous acidic flu vaccine made with chicken embryos, formaldehyde, mercury, detergent, and alcohol. The flu is the body in preservation mode increasing body temperature to activate the lymphatic system to remove excess dietary and/or metabolic acids in the tissues via respiration, perspiration, defecation and urination. The key to reversing the symptoms of the Flu is hydration with alkaline fluids and sweating with infrared sauna or exercise.
Myth 2) Taking antibiotics will kill bacteria. This is medical subterfuge and distortion as even the medical community realizes that antibiotics don't do what they are supposed to do. We say with alarm that disease is becoming resistant to antibiotics. They are not "resistant," because they have never been operative or effective. Antibiotics are the acidic waste products of fermentation. To make an antibiotic, you need a yeast or mold and some sugar for the yeast or mold to ferment. The bi-product of the yeast or mold fermenting the sugar is the acidic antibiotic. The acids from antibiotics DO NOT KILL BACTERIA. They only force the bacteria to change. Into what does bacteria change? Into yeast and mold. That is why when you take antibiotics you end up with a yeast infection! That's the antibiotic causing the bacteria to change from one form to another. I call this process of change "biological transformation," and the reason why you should NEVER take antibiotics. Try the COWS Plan. It is safer and more effective.
Myth 3) The stomach should be acidic and contains hydrochloric acid, or HCL, to digest food. This is one of the biggest scientific misconceptions ever. First, the stomach is NOT and organ of digestion. Most so-called digestion starts in the mouth. That's why your mom said to chew your food. The stomach is an organ that alkalizes the food and liquids that you eat. The stomach cells, called the cover cells, secrete sodium bicarbonate onto the ingested food and drink to alkalize the food, not to digest the food. For every molecule of sodium bicarbonate produced by the stomach for alkalizing, a molecule of hydrochloric acid is produced as a waste product. Hydrochloric acid, or HCL, never touches the food or drink but falls into the gastric pits of the stomach away from the food and drink as the sodium bicarbonate rises to the top to alkalize the food and/or liquids ingested. This is necessary in order to prepare the food in an alkaline state for the duodenum and the small intestine where the liquid food is then biologically transformed into stem cells. There is NO part of the alimentary canal that does not secret sodium bicarbonate for alkalizing. In conclusion, the stomach is an organ of contribution and alkalizing, not a digestive organ as medical savants would have us believe. So now you know it is a whopper of a lie.
Myth 4) A cold is caused by a virus. This is another whopper -- a century-long distortion. A cold is the body removing excess dietary and/or metabolic acids through the orifices of the body to maintain its delicate alkaline pH. Colds are NOT caused by viruses but are caused by eating too much acidic GARBAGE. I won't get YOUR cold if MY body is properly alkaline. Excess acids can also be caused by your thoughts or negative emotions, which can also give rise to the elimination of these acids through various orifices, such as your eyes, ears, mouth or nose.
Myth 5) Pharmaceutical drugs may have side-effects. What an intentional obfuscation this is! Pharmaceutical drugs do not have side-effects; they have EFFECTS! And lots of them! If you take the drugs, plan on them affecting your health in many negative and acidic ways.
Myth 6) The brain runs on sugar. This is closer to gross ignorance than a lie. Sugar is a metabolic acid and has no value in the body. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. The brain does NOT run on sugar; it runs on electrons -- just like every other cell in the human body. Increase your healthy brain function with more electrons with electron-rich food and water. Myth 7) Cancer is a disease of the tissues. NO! Cancer is not a disease of the tissues but a disease of the fluids of the body. After a trillion dollars spent since President Nixon declared war on cancer, we still pretend not to know what it is. But it has become a several hundred billion dollar industry . . . larger than the automobile industry. Cancer is an acidic, environmental, dietary and/or metabolic liquid; it is NOT a cell, and we ALL have some of it in our body to greater or lesser degree. The more acid we have in our body, the greater the risk for cancerous tissues. Cancer, therefore, is a four letter word: ACID! And cancer's fumbling, bumbling proponents have put forth another four letter word: MYTH. Myth 8) HIV is a virus and causes AIDS. This is an incredible whopper! And because the real and UNEXAMINED TRUTH has been explained by several scientists for many years, it is MORE than a whopper. It is now a fraud. There is NO HIV virus. You heard me right; there is NO HIV virus! There never has been. AIDS or immune deficiency is caused by an acidic way of living, eating and thinking. There is no need for drugs, but just the need to change to an alkaline lifestyle and diet and PRESTO . . . NO MORE AIDS. It works 100 percent of the time if you get going before the drugs and wrong diet have taken you right up to death's door.
Myth 9) Taking digestive enzymes will help digestion. This is a major fable and fabrication to which many holistic doctors prescribe. And it's a dangerous one . . . especially for people who take digestive enzymes all the time. Enzymes are acids from fermentation and are poisonous. Just like Drano, taking enzymes will eventually destroy your alkalizing alimentary canal. One will kill you fast and one will kill you slow! Digestive enzymes may break down meat, but nutritional science clearly tells us that you shouldn't be eating meat. They will break you down too because guess what? Your alimentary canal is meat!
Myth 10) Blood is made in the marrow of the bones. This inaccuracy and science fiction began with the distortions of four scientists in 1952 when they conducted starvation studies on rabbits and pigeons and decided after autopsy that blood was created in the bones. This is NOT correct. The primary site of blood production is in the crypts of the intestinal villi in the small intestine. When acids (antibiotics, acid food and drink, enzymes, probiotics) damage or destroy the intestinal villi, then the body makes blood out of various body cells such as the bones. The studies on blood in 1952 may likely have been the correct conclusion if the autopsies had been done on humans --assuming the bodies had starved to death like the rabbits and pigeons. Logically, autopsies are done on people who have been very sick and finally died. The body is so sick that blood has not been made in the intestinal villi perhaps for some time. Now medical savants have amazingly discovered that blood can also be made in the liver. The truth is that it can also be made from all the organs and all the cells once the body is sickly enough. Hopefully, we won't be doing autopsies on healthy bodies because they rarely die. But if we did, we'd find out where blood is really made in a healthy body . . . in the crypts of the intestinal villi in the twenty-seven feet of the small intestine.
Myth 11) Germs cause disease via an infection. This is another invention based on faulty scientific premises. Germs are nothing more than the biological transformation of organized matter disorganizing. Germs therefore are the RESULT of fermenting matter and not the CAUSE of fermenting matter, just as the smoke of a fired gun is not the cause but the evidence that the gun has been fired. When you see bacteria, yeast or mold on food, this is a result of food deterioration, not a result of an infection. When I see bacteria or yeast in the blood, I know this is a result of blood or body cells biologically transforming and not a result of an infection. In other words, germs are born in us and from us. The infection can only contribute to a state of imbalance but CANNOT cause ANY specific disease. So stay away from all treatment plans, traditional or alternative that focuses on the killing germs. If the drug or supplement will kill germs it will also kill you.
Myth 12) High Cholesterol in the form of low density lipoproteins or LDL's can cause heart attacks and strokes. Cholesterol does NOT cause heart attacks or strokes. Not a single one. This is a distortion and an inaccuracy based on faulty observation and inquiry.
Environmental, dietary and metabolic acid cause heart attacks and strokes. The body releases cholesterol or LDL's to buffer, or chelate, the toxic lethal affects of acid to protect the body, not harm the body. It is your thoughts, your words and your deeds that create waste products or acids. If these acids are not eliminated through urination, perspiration, defecation or respiration, the body will release cholesterol, or LDL's, to buffer these acids for protection and not for destruction. A recent landmark study showed that you are more likely to have a heart attack or stroke with normal or low cholesterol then a person with a total cholesterol over 300. Your risk for a heart attack or stroke increases significantly as your acid levels increase or if you lower your cholesterol with drugs without lowering your production of acid from the environment, lifestyle, diet and/or metabolism.
Myth 13) Eating protein builds muscles. Wrong again. This is another fictitious distortion based on faulty observation based on a) preconceived notions about how the body works and b) the failure of science to sufficiently isolate variables when making so-called scientific observations. Tell the strongest animals in the world -- vegetarian animals -- that eating protein builds muscle. Eating protein actually makes you weak and eventually sick and tired from the debilitating acids of sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric and uric acid. The body builds muscle from blood and not from plant or animal protein. At the Ranch we grow avocados. We give our avocados minerals, water and sunshine -- no protein. Yet, our avocados are 80% healthy fat and 15% protein. If you want to build muscle, you have to build blood. And to build blood you have to eat green foods and lots of them.
Myth 14) Obesity is a fat problem. I would call this a big fat lie. A big whopper with cheese and bacon. No, I'm sorry fat doctors, fat farms and fat clinics of the world. Obesity is an acid problem, not a fat problem. The body protects itself against acidic lifestyles and diets by making and using fat. Think of fat as your parking places for environmental, dietary, and metabolic acids that are not properly eliminated via urination, perspiration, defecation and/or respiration. You can now say that fat is saving your life. Thank you fat! Be glad that fat was not accumulating inside your veins and arteries. At least collecting on your hips and belly you could see the fat and decide if you want to do something about it. All you need to do is get off your fat acid and go to health with an alkaline lifestyle and diet. As you alkalize, the fat melts away with all of its acidic contents.
Myth 15) Hormone replacement therapy can help balance your hormones. This greedy fiction and pharmaceutical deception is actually hurting ever so many unknowing innocent women. The first thing to understand is that hormones are acidic waste products of endocrine gland function. Balancing your hormones would be like balancing your car's carbon monoxide exhaust. You would never give you car more acidic carbon monoxide to help it run better. You would change the oil, the filter or use a more energy efficient fuel. This is what you need to do when you have endocrine or energy imbalance. You need to change your lifestyle and diet to an alkaline lifestyle and diet with liberal amounts of electron rich green foods.

Vitamin B1 Reverses Kidney Damage in Diabetics, So Why Won't Doctors Recommend It? Mike Adams, NaturalNews
New research shows that the low-cost vitamin Thiamine (vitamin B1) reverses kidney damage in diabetics, restoring the ability of the kidneys to function without allowing proteins to spill over into the urine.
The finding proves that a very low-cost treatment is highly effective and could serve as a low-cost nutritional therapy for diabetics, ultimately saving tens of millions of dollars a year in medical treatment costs in the U.S. alone.
The research was conducted at Warwick University in the UK. Predictably, the UK version of the American Diabetes Association (called "Diabetes UK") took the new evidence as an opportunity to tell people to avoid nutritional therapies. As reported by the BBC, Dr. Iain Frame said, "We would like to stress that it's still too early to come to any firm conclusions about the role of vitamin B1 and we would not advise that people look to vitamin supplements to reduce their risk of kidney complications at this stage."
In other words, it's the same advice diabetics get in the United States: Don't you dare use vitamins to enhance and protect your health... use pharmaceuticals instead!
More than three-fourths of the populations in both the U.S. and U.K. are deficient in thiamine. The deficiency can be easily corrected with nutritional supplementation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, however, does not believe there is any vitamin or nutrient in the known universe that prevents or treats any disease or health condition. This is actually the official position of the FDA, and thus anyone selling vitamin B1 who also claims the vitamin could reverse diabetic kidney damage would be violating FDA regulations and subjected to arrest at gunpoint. Any doctor recommending vitamin B1 for the same purpose could be stripped of his license to practice medicine.
Why orthodox medicine opposes nutrition The entire orthodox medical system in both the U.S. and U.K. is dead set against the use of vitamins to prevent or treat any disease. Rather than embracing vitamins that could greatly ease human suffering and save billions of dollars in health care costs, the corrupt medical authorities of both nations conspire to discredit vitamins and limit patients to the use of highly-profitable, yet dangerously toxic drugs.
And each time new research surfaces, showing the remarkable health benefits of a vitamin, these same medical authorities immediately denounce those vitamins, insisting that "more research is needed."
That's code for "we'll never advocate it." Whether we're talking about vitamin D (which prevents cancer), vitamin E (which prevents heart disease) or any of the B vitamins, conventional medicine remains unconditionally opposed to any patient using vitamins for any purpose whatsoever.
This isn't based on evidence, and it isn't about science; it's about politics and profits. Vitamins are discredited precisely because they threaten the profits of Big Pharma and strip power from doctors by allowing patients to prevent and treat their own health conditions are home (for pennies on the dollar).

Natural Remedies for Laryingitis

Laryngitis leaves a person speechless. At best, the
person speaks in a raspy tone or in a whisper. Severe cases lead to a
complete loss of the voice. It is inconvenient, especially if your
occupation involves a great deal of vocal communication.
Acute
laryngitis lasts just a few days, but chronic cases can last weeks or
even longer. Sometimes it is painful.The larynx is located in the throat. It is commonly known as vocal chords or vocal folds. It becomes inflamed (the 'itis' part of laryngitis) for a number of reasons. A virus, as in a cold, is the most common cause. Bacteria and fungal infections can also cause hoarseness. The coughing which comes with respiratory illness may lead to laryngitis. Over use or abuse of the vocal chords through excessive shouting or incorrect singing habits stress the voice, causing inflammation. Smokers may find themselves with a case of laryngitis. A heavy bout of alcohol intake irritates the throat as well. The throat may erode due to acid reflux. Occasionally, the vocal chords may be disturbed by the presence of a tumor, leading to loss of vocal power.
We cannot claim to cure or treat laryngitis. Natural healing does not necessarily offer specialized recommendations. Instead, illness or disease is seen as an indication that the body is over loaded with issues which cause stress. Issues range from improper care for your body to toxic pollutants.
In our hectic lives, we often neglect the proper care and feeding of our bodies. Insufficient rest, junk food (and drinks), and exposure to environmental toxins take their toll.
At the first sign of a sickness, one needs to realize that the body has been under more stress than it can handle. Too often, we want to take a cup of tea or some pills and continue doing what we have been doing all along. Think again.
Many natural healers recommend beginning intervention for particular ailments with the simplest remedies.
So, let us begin with a common recommendation: get rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Sleep is underrated as a healing modality. True, many ills need a bit more than extra sleep for their resolution, but resting in bed (or on the sofa during the daytime) allows the body to pour its energy more effectively into the immune system.
In addition, while you sleep, in the dark of night, melatonin is produced. Melatonin is important in regulating the body's daily (circadian) rhythm. It is a powerful antioxidant, which can cross cell membranes and the blood brain barrier. Even the products of melatonin's attack on free radicals have antioxidant activity. Longevity is one of the side effects of melatonin's action in the body as it seems to generate a powerful response from the immune system. It may assist in fighting viral and bacterial infections, including those which may be implicated in laryngitis.
So, get plenty of rest, especially in a dark room at night. If you need to get up, do not turn on a light. And when you wake up, be sure to drink plenty of water.
Water is essential to life. The body is at least seventy percent water. The body counts on blood and lymph fluids as transportation systems. They carry nutrients and immune system components to where they are needed and cart off waste products. Too many people stumble through their day to day lives depriving their bodies of necessary fluids or consuming substances which decrease the available fluids. So, it is essential that one increase fluid intake during times of stress.
Certainly, the first choice of fluids is good quality water. Much has been written about pure water so we need not cover that topic here. Suffice to say that if you drink contaminated water, it will be more difficult for the body to focus on cleaning up the vocal chords.
Eliminate dairy products. While that dish of ice cream may sound appealing when your throat is hot and sore, its effect will be extremely short lived. Milk products tend to increase mucus production in the body, which tends to muck things up. In the end, mucus accumulation makes it more difficult for the immune system to send in the troops.
Other helpful liquids are available which can assist in clearing the mess which has led to the laryngitis.
Honey has been shown to be as effective as patent cough syrup. It is astringent, clearing away inflammation and some of its causes. Raw honey has enough sugar in it to give that little boost of energy and many of the enzymes to help the body effectively use that sugar. The little bit of nutrition in honey also helps in healing.
Add freshly squeezed lemon juice (or raw apple cider vinegar) in equal parts with the honey. This can provide vitamin C and some of the electrolytes which help to bring the acid/alkaline balance back to unhealthy tissues.
Squeeze the juice from half a lemon, mix it with a tablespoon or two of honey. Add this mixture to a cup of water. It does not matter if the water is warm or cool. Now, stir in one tenth teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Yes, you read that right - cayenne pepper. The cayenne helps to break up mucus accumulation in and around the inflamed tissue.
A similar recipe, substituting grade B maple syrup for the honey constitutes the Master Cleanse. During the cleanse, drink ten to twelve cups of this lemonade throughout the day. Generally the Master Cleanse is presented as a form of fasting. You probably don't feel much like eating when your throat is so sore and swollen.
If the concept of hot pepper intimidates you, try mixing honey and lemon in sage tea. Steep a tablespoon of dried sage leaves in three cups of boiling water. Do not boil the sage leaves, just pour the boiling water over the leaves and cover for fifteen minutes. Strain and add lemon and honey as above.
Another remedy recommended by the old herbalists is garlic syrup. Peel and chop the cloves of several garlic heads and place them in a jar. Cover with equal parts apple cider vinegar and distilled water. Shake well and allow to sit for four hours. Strain and add an equal amount of honey. Shake together. Cap. Store in the refrigerator. Take a teaspoon to a tablespoon every six to eight hours.
We cannot leave this subject without mentioning Grandma's favorite remedy for what ails you: Chicken soup. Any soup, for that matter, which is made with lots of herbs and vegetables provides easily digestible nutrition. Our fore-mothers knew, perhaps intuitively, that herbs are for much more that taste. Many of them have antibiotic properties and can be a strong ally in repairing the damage we do to our bodies from day to day.
When you have laryngitis, realize that your body is telling you that you have not given it the care it deserves. Slow down, and get extra rest. You will find that you don't have much appetite, so don't be afraid to cut back on your food intake (especially those junk foods that we are all so fond of). Drink plenty of fluids. Honey, lemon, sage, and garlic are primary tools for getting back in communication with your world.

Correction: Using Hydrogen Peroxide in the ears
Last issue, we published an article on using hydrogen peroxide (h2o2) in the ears to prevent colds. Our editor (yours truly, Didi) failed to notice that no dosage was mentioned.
Hydrogen peroxide is generally sold in pharmacies as "30 volume", "20 volume" or "10 volume"
30 vol = 6% solution 20 vol = 4% solution 10 vol = 2% solution
30 vol (6%) and 20 vol (4%) can be particularly corrosive if applied directly to human skin for long.
So you should dilute h2o2 no matter what volume you buy.
I would suggest that you mix 1 part H202 with 3 parts water. Then you can drop it in the ears.
The "fizzing" that happens when h2o2 is applied to infected skin, etc, itself, not dangerous. That is just oxygen being released as h2o2 comes in contact with the microbes and kills them.
But if h2o2 remains longer, it may start to sting painfully. In that case, the acids of h2o2 start to corrode the skin. It should be washed off before that happens.
The ear and eardrum are delicate body parts. You should be careful when applying hydrogen peroxide.

The Growing War Between Modern Medicine and the Public

How can the U.S. significantly reduce health-care costs, and yet plan on increased employment in the health-care industry? According to the article linked below, this is the moral crux for American medicine. If Americans become healthier, there will be fewer jobs. Maybe this is why modern medicine drags its feet when it comes to preventive medicine.
The government is complicit in spawning the diabetes/obesity epidemic by subsidizing the production of non-nutrient-dense foods and high-fructose corn syrup. Statin anti-cholesterol drugs are approved by the FDA even though they don't reduce mortality rates. Modern medicine is an industry that wants more, not less, disease to treat. Doctors aren't interested in disease prevention -- conventional medicine is quick to dismiss any truly preventive therapies as unproven and requiring more study.
Still, an estimated 38 percent of U.S. adults, along with 12 percent of children, use some type of complementary and alternative medicine, according to a new U.S. government survey.
Complementary and alternative medicine refers to a wide-ranging collection of medical and health care systems, practices and products that aren't generally considered conventional medicine. They include herbal supplements, meditation, chiropractic treatment and acupuncture.
For the survey, more than 23,300 adults were interviewed about their use of complementary and alternative medicine. More than 9,400 were also asked about their children's use of complementary and alternative medicine.
The survey found that the use of techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, massage therapy, and yoga increased significantly. The most common supplements used by adults are omega 3 fats, glucosamine, echinacea, flaxseed, and ginseng.
Other findings from the survey showed that more women than men use complementary and alternative medicine (42.8 percent versus 33.5 percent). Older, more educated and wealthier adults also used complementary and alternative medicine in greater numbers.
It's no wonder that 38 percent of American adults have opted for alternative medicine. Where else can the public turn? Many patients are belittled when they tell their doctors they are taking dietary supplements instead of prescription drugs.
Americans are increasingly distrustful of prescription medicines. According to a 2005 poll, 35 percent of Americans who were prescribed drugs didn't take them because they wanted to save money, and another 28 percent didn't take them because of "frightening side effects.

How Caffeine During Pregnancy Can Damage Your Baby mercola.com
A new study shows that one dose of caffeine -- just two cups of coffee -- ingested during pregnancy may be enough to affect fetal heart development and reduce heart function over the entire lifespan of the child.
In addition, the researchers also found that this minimal amount of exposure can lead to higher body fat among males. Although the study was in mice, the biological cause and effect described in the research paper likely applies to humans as well.
Researchers studied pregnant mice for 48 hours. Mice given caffeine produced embryos with a thinner layer of tissue separating some of the heart's chambers.
The researchers then examined the mice born from these groups to determine the long-term effects on the offspring. All of the adult males exposed to caffeine as fetuses had an increase in body fat of about 20 percent, and decrease in cardiac function of 35 percent.

Amidst the ever changing, often conflicting information about what constitutes a "safe" amount of caffeine for expectant mothers, it has always been my position that no amount of caffeine during pregnancy is safe.

Poor Families Pressed Into Vaccine Trials by Drug Companies; 12 Babies Die

Major pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline has been accused of pressuring poor Third World parents into enrolling their children in experimental drug trials that have led to the deaths of at least 12 infants.
The company is currently testing an experimental pneumonia vaccine on children under the age of one in Argentina, Colombia and Panama. According to the Argentine Federation of Health Professionals (Feprosa), poor Argentinean parents have been "pressured and forced into signing consent forms."
"In most cases these are underprivileged individuals, many of them unable to read or write, who are pressured into including their children," said Juan Carlos Palomares of Fesprosa.
"This occurs without any type of state control [and] does not comply with minimum ethical requirements," the federation said.
At least 12 Argentinean babies enrolled in the study have died in the past year.
In response to be criticism, Glaxo said its strict safety protocols are monitored by an independent committee, and that no one is forced to participate in the program.
"Enrollment in the trial is on a voluntary basis and trial participants are free to withdraw at any time," the company said.
But according to Julieta Ovejero, great aunt of one of the children who died, "A lot of people want to leave the protocol but aren't allowed; they force them to continue under the threat that if they leave they won't receive any other vaccine."
The vaccine trial has also drawn accusations of corruption: The trials in the Argentinean province of Santiago del Estero were authorized under provincial Health Minister Juan Carlos Smith, brother of the lead researcher in the study.
Critics such as Ana Maria Marchese, a pediatrician at the Santiago del Estero children's hospital where the study is taking place, accuse Glaxo of using Third World children as guinea pigs.
"Because they can't experiment in Europe or the United States, they come to do it in third-world countries," she said.

2 Steps to Protect Your Eyesight from Aging
There's a whole lot you can do to not only protect your
eyesight, but to actually REVERSE eye deterioration - without resorting to
surgery.
It's a two step programme, with step three being the most
exciting in my opinion.
But don't cheat!
Start with Step One, and read these in order...
Step One: Create an 'eye-gym' to strengthen your sight. This is just a simple way to help relax your eyes and keep
them from wearing out. Just follow the steps below, and your eyes will thank
you for it:
- Virtual sprints - look at something nearby, then shift
your focus to something in the distance. Repeat this ten times, each time looking
at something further and further away. Remember at school when the sports
master used to make you run to a bollard or a wall, touch it, then run back?
Well this is the same exercise for your eyes.
- Get blinking - blink every three seconds. This will
exercise your eyes by making them refocus rapidly.

The pen trick - hold a pen about two feet away from your
eyes, then slowly move it in until it touches your nose, keeping your eyes on
it all the way. It'll make you go cross-eyed, which is a good exercise.
- Sit straight and move your eyes quickly around the room,
focussing on a different object each time before quickly moving off to another.
DON'T move your head.
- Virtual weight machine - keep your head still and move
your eyes up as far as you can, then down as far as you can WITHOUT straining.
Do this three times. Repeat the same exercise going side to side.
- Create an angle - do the above exercises again, but this
time go diagonally, from left to right and right to left.
- Warm down - at the end of your exercises, relax your eyes
by placing your palms over your closed eyes, but make sure your palms don't
make contact with your eyelids. You are simply trying to block out as much
daylight as possible. Keep your eyes closed for two minutes.
Step Two: Eat your way to better eyesight
Okay, you've got the exercises done, now you need to know
which foods that can bolster your eye health, quickly and easily:
The two stereotypes that really work... an apple a day
keeps the doctor away so they say. Well it also helps keep the optician away too.
Eat at least one apple a day (as the rhyme tells you to).
The other stereotype...? Well, what do you bring when you
visit someone in hospital? Grapes of course. This is another excellent fruit
for your eyesight, so if you fancy snacking on something, snack on these.
Boost your intake of vitamin A... mangoes, tomatoes,
lettuce, cabbage, peas and dates all have a good amount stuffed in them. And of
course let's not forget stereotype no. 3 - carrots.
Copy Popeye. Spinach is one of the best all- round good
guys. It helps keep your blood clean and healthy, which means that your eyes will
get a higher-quality supply of blood pumped up to them.

Writer and ecologist Rachel Carson grew up not far from where I live. In her 1962 book Silent Spring, she warned about the effects of pesticides and called for new policies to protect humans, animals and the land. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, but not much has changed.

Genetically modified plants are not the answer, as they open a Pandora's box of other problems. Most genetically engineered crops are created to make plants resistant to herbicides, allowing even more herbicides to be used. In addition, since GM seed is patented, the farmer no longer owns the fruits of his own labor.
Alternatives exist for a sustainable agriculture that would allow us to produce healthy food without damaging the ecosystem. Organic and Biodynamic farming methods use manures, composting, crop rotation and biological pest control in place of chemicals and synthetic fertilizers. One method of biological pest control uses natural enemies to control insects and weeds.
