Tree Bombs

Lockheed Martin is planning to take a fleet of old, unused C-130 Hercules cargo planes - originally created to drop land mines - and recommission them to drop "tree bombs" that will aid growth in deforested areas.


Instead of land mines, the planes will release tree saplings, each contained within an expertly designed cone that can bury itself into the soil at the same depth achieved if the seedling were planted by hand.

Hundred Year Starship

NASA and DARPA have teamed up to build a Hundred-Year Starship, an initiative that would entail passengers leaving Earth and never coming back.


The astronaut explorers would set up a permanent colony on Mars and stay there for the rest of their lives.
