NEW YORK - At a meeting held on Monday, November 22, at our Provincial Curia in New York City, Friar Primo P. Piscitello, OFM, was confirmed as the new Provincial Minister of the Immaculate Conception Province.
At this meeting, called by General Visitor Larry Dunham, OFM, members of both the old and new Provincial Defintories were present along with General Definitor, Fr. Francis Walter, OFM, who made the announcement in the name of the General Minister Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, and the General Definitory.
The decree from the General Administration of the Order stated that the resignation of Provincial Minister-elect Antonio Nardoianni had been accepted and subsequently, according to the general legislation of the Church and the Order that the General Definitorium had elected Friar Primo to serve a six year term as Provincial Minister.
Following the announcement of our new Provincial Minister, Fr. Francis asked the General Visitor to confirm the following offices for the new administration of the Province:
Minister Provincial: Br. Primo Piscitello
Vicar Provincial: Br. Robert Campagna
Definitors: Br. Patrick Boyle, Br. Vincent de Paul Ciaravino, Br. Michael Della Penna, Br. John Scarangello, Br. Dennis Wheatley. The confirmation of the Vicar Provincial and Definitorium reflect the results of the election held during the Provincial Chapter in September.
Members from the outgoing Definitorium who were present for Monday's meeting were: Friars Charles Gingerich, Ralph Paonessa, and Joseph Lorenzo.
Our new Provincial Minister was born on July 27, 1934 in Boston. He was received into the Order on July 14, 1951, making his first profession of vows on July 15, 1952 and his solemn profession on September 4, 1956. Fr. Primo was ordained to the priesthood on June 18, 1960.
Over the course of his many years in religious life, Fr. Primo has been involved in a variety of ministries including parish life and extensive experiences in the various levels of formation. At the time of his appointment as Provincial Minister, Fr. Primo was serving as Guardian of St. Isidore's in Rome.
