Newman Institute dedicates room to Friar Romano Almagno
 
PITTSBURGH, PA - The Gailliot Family has made a substantial donation for the newly erected Cardinal Newman Institute in Pittsburgh.
 
The Institute serves as a research center for Newman scholars.  Two rooms in the Institute have been reserved for visiting scholars.  One room has been dedicated to John Joseph Cardinal Wright and the other to Friar Romano Almagno.
 
Pictured below is a portrait and plaque marking the room named in Romano's honor.

St. Barbara Province elects new leadership
 
John Hardin, OFMOAKLAND, CALIFORNIA - On Tuesday morning, the Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. Barbara elected Friar John Hardin as their new Provincial Minister. 
 
John was sworn in by the Visitator General, Friar Peter Williams and received the seal of the Province.
 
At the time of his election, John was serving as Executive Director of the St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco. The Foundation provides food, clothing, housing and healing of body and spirit to the poor in the Tenderloin secion of San Francisco.
 
John replaced Friar Mel Jurisich in the ministry of Provincial Minister. The Province of St. Barbara has 275 friars.
 
On Wednesday, the Chapter elected Friar Ken Laverone to serve as Vicar Provincial Minister.  And Thursday saw the election of the Provincial Definitorium which will include Friars Franklin Fong, Charles Talley, Robert Rodrigues, Joe Schwab, Oscar Mendez-Guzman, and Michael Doherty.
 
General Minister Jose Rodriguez Carballo was also present at the Chapter on Thursday addressing the friars and concluding the day by renewing their religious vows.
SJB Province celebrates 150th
 
St. John the Baptist 150th
CINCINNATI, OHIO- St. John the Baptist Province is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
 
In 1859, the St. John the Baptist Custody was erected. As part of the observance of this significant moment, the SJB Province has developed a twelve-part series on the lives of the friars and their ministries over the history of the Province.
