NEW ZEP SYSTEM III

 Zep logo

Zep System III offers the fastest and least expensive way to mount PV

Zep IIIarrays on flat roofs.  With a series of drop-in and quarter turn connections, Zep System III greatly accelerates the process of commercial rooftop installation.  Zep System III eliminates the need for mounting rails, requires few parts, and simultaneously accomplishes structural and grounding connections.

Components

Row Connector, ZS-RCA

The row connector provides a point of attachment for the Front and Rear Legs and creates a rigid connection beween rows. The profile of the Row Connector accepts standard strut nuts for attaching standard strut or brackets for applications that require bracing for seismic and high wind applications.

Ballast Pan, ZS-BPA

The Ballast Pan installs, by hand, over the Row Connector and receives ballast blocks to add ballast weight to the system.

Leg Set, ZS-LSA

The Leg Set consists of a Front Leg and a Rear Leg which snap, by hand, into the Row Connectors. The Legs create an 11 degree array tilt angle.

Ground Zep, ZS-GZA

The Ground Zep provides a point of connection between the PV array and the equipment grounding conductor and also allows for bonding jumpers at thermal breaks. One bonding jumper is required for every east-west run of 24 PV modules. The Ground Zep is ETL Listed to UL467 as a ground bond means.

Wind Diffuser, ZS-WDA

The Wind Diffuser is installed on the back side of each row and reduces uplift forces due to wind by redirecting air over and around the array, balancing air pressures across the upper and lower sides of the array.

Diffuser Support, ZS-WDB

The Spoiler Support provides additional rigidity along the upper edge of the module row and supports the ends of the Spoilers.

NEW QUICKMOUNT PV PRODUCTS

QMPV logo

Quick Mount PV has released three new products for steep-slope residential and low-slope commercial roofs. Each incorporates their new QBase, the strongest mounting base on the market, by far.

Low Slope Mount

Low Slope Mounts
The Low Slope Mount takes the traditional base-and-post mount to its ultimate level. It's the strongest you can buy for mechanically attaching commercial PV systems to TPO, PVC, EPDM, built-up asphalt, and virtually all other non-metal low-slope roofs.

New Roof Comp Mount

New Roof Comp Mounts
The New Roof Composition Mount is designed to smoothly fit into the workflow between the trades while installing solar arrays during new home construction or roof replacement. It can also be used for retrofit installations when greater sheer capacity is required.

New Roof Comp Mount

Universal Tile Mount
The Universal Tile Mount replaces our existing Curved Tile Mount. It's also double flashed, but with aluminum sub-flashing instead of peel and stick. The post has been lengthened by one inch to be taller and stronger. The secondary top flashing is malleable, so it works equally well for both curved and flat tile roofs. Both flashings feature a spun aluminum cone, with no seams to fail in extreme weather. The reinforced QBase makes for an extraordinarily strong foundation. Ideal for both retrofit and new roof installations.

PRE-ORDERING LARGE INVERTERS

As the busy season nears, please stay ahead of your project deadlines by pre-ordering your large inverters.  Many commercial inverters have a lead time of 8-16 weeks depending on model and manufacturer.

Let us help you stay ahead of your schedule by providing up-to-date lead times - which we receive from our manufacturers on a regular basis.

NEW KACO INVERTERS

 Kaco logo

KACO has announced it's latest generation of the blueplanet inverter

Kaco inverterseries.  The 02xi series currently includes the 1502xi, 2502x, 3502xi and 5002xi grid tied inverters.  The units come with an integrated connection box with a

DC/AC switch satisfying the NEC requirement for disconnecting the AC and DC circuits.  Installation is as simple as mounting a bracket to the wall, hanging the inverter and installing a single bolt to the wall.  The 02xi inverters are lightweight and easy to lift onto the wall bracket.  The connection box allows conduit to enter from the left, right, bottom, or rear sides for increased installation flexibility.

The inverter CEC efficiency has been increased for all units to 95.5%.  The overall design has been simplified and made more reliable using the latest generation of Digital Signal Processing control technology.  Field configuration of positive or negative ground is now provided as well as 208 VAC

or 240 VAC grid connection with or without a neutral present.  The inverters now come with the option of the KACO watchDOG, an integrated communication card that allows superior web enabled monitoring of your system.

02xi Features:

  • Field selectable grid voltage connection for 208/240 VAC and 220 VA (for Mexico)
  • Integrated AC/DC disconnect switch
  • Input voltage range: 125 - 550 VDC (maximum voltage of 600V)
  • Field selectable positive or negative grounding
  • User-friendly, KACO display with two-key operation
  • Night switch to illuminate the LCD
  • Easy to access front flip panel
  • Compact and lightweight NEMA 3R enclosure design
  • RS485 interface standard
  • Inverter is fully separable from the AC/DC disconnect switch box housing for easy maintenance and/or repair
  • Electrically isolated dual converter principle in HF technology

XP 100U Features:

  • High efficiency - over 96%
  • 208 and 480 V grid connection settings
  • Interactive graphical TFT touch screen
  • Increased energy yield with advanced MPPT capable of reacting to dynamic weather fluctuations
  • JAVA enabled web monitoring
  • SD card data storage (up to 8GB)
  • Variable speed fan with low noise output and increased power savings
  • NEMA 3R enclosure - for indoor or outdoor installation
  • easyLink data interface - ethernet and RS485 connections

TYCO SOLARLOK

Understanding Tyco Solarlok Connectors

Tyco designed their connector range with bi-polar PV arrays in mind.  Their connectors incorporate a polarity feature that prevent the accidental interconnection of positive and negative connectors.  This is useful for parallel connection of strings, but causes problems when stringing modules in series (as commonly done with string inverters).

With Tyco connectors the female is always polarized.  To allows the series connection of modules, Tyco created a Male Neutral connector.  The polarity of the connector should indicate what voltage is present on that wire.  Since positive and negative connectors will not mate with each other it is common to use a Male Neutral on one of the connector ends.  Consequently, most PV modules now come with Female Negative and Male Neutral connectors.  To be consistent with the intention of the Tyco connector scheme, the home run cables used with these modules should have Female Positive and Male Negative connectors, though Female Negative and Male Neutral connectors are commonly used.

The gender of a connector refers to the metal contact inside the plastic housing. the female contact fits around the outside of the male contacts' pin.  The other end of each contact has an opening where wire is inserted and crimped to attach it to the contact.

Tyco Female Connectors

The female Tyco connector is always polarized.  This is achieved by having a plastic ring molded in the plastic housing as show below:

Tyco Female Connectors

Female Pos (red ring), Female Neg (blue ring)

Tyco Male Connectors

The male connector has grooves molded in its housing to polarize it.  The Neutral housing has grooves on both sides of the top and bottom to allow it to be mated with either polarity female connector.

Tyco Male Connectors

Male Pos (+ sign), Male Neg (- sign), End View, Male Neutral (no sign)

The back of the plastic housing has a sealing pinch ring that must make a watertight seal and the outer diameter of the insulation of the wire being used.

To correctly specify a Tyco connector the following factors must be determined:

  • The contact pins must be sized for the wire gauge being used.  We only supply 10AWG (6.0mm) wire.
  • The gender and polarity of the connector housing needs to match the panel or inverter leads.  All the PV modules we sell come with Female Negative and Male Neutral connectors.
  •  The outer diameter of the wire must match the connector seal ring.
