Three Sisters

Three elderly sisters, ages 92, 94 and 96, shared a house together. One evening, the 96 year old sister went upstairs to take a bath. As she put her foot into the tub, she paused. Then she yelled down to the other two sisters and asked, "Was I getting in the tub or out?"

"You dern fool," said the 94 year old. "I'll come up and see." When she got half way up the stairs she paused. "Was I going up the stairs or down?"

The 92 year old sister was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of tea and thought, "I hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood." She shook her head and called out, "I'll be up to help you both as soon as I see who's at the door."

Tools of the Trade April 2012
Greetings!

Changes everywhere!  Just as Spring has sprung, we have had our own transformation as well!  The things happening around our office right now have me buzzing like a bee!

Internal changes at the office, the new website (more on that in a minute!), and all sorts of other changes that are all geared to providing YOU with a better G.R. experience. If you have not been by the office recently we encourage you to come by and see the difference!  There are more changes in the works and we are off to a great start!

Check out the website, www.geotx.com and see what is happening there.  From a more user friendly interface, to better content we are making our web space a place you will want to spend more time.  Create an account and see the library of content we are putting together just for our clients!  A bounty of helpful resources you will not find anywhere else!

Speaking of information, have you liked us on Facebook yet?  We are putting up information there as fast as we can and encourage you to check it out, refer a friend, and check back often for special deals and promotions!

As we have done from the beginning with both CDS and Geomatic Resources, all of these changes are geared toward better serving our clients.  Our mission is making sure that we do not simply satisfy our clients or take care of them but that we AMAZE them.  We want to do everything we can to provide you with the best possible experience and do everything in our power to help you do your job at your best.

If there is anything we can do for you please do not hesitate to let one of us know.  An email, a phone call, a post card, or even a post-it note....let us know how we are doing and what we can do for you!

Sincerely,

Paul M. Carlson

"If you want something bad enough to go out and fight for it. To work day and night for it. To give up your time, your peace and sleep for it. And all that you dream and scheme is about it. And life seems useless and worthless without it. And if you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it. And lose all your terror of the opposition for it. And if you simply go after that thing that you want with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity. Faith, hope, and confidence and stern for tenacity. If neither cold poverty, famish, or cold sickness or pain of body and brain can keep you away from that thing that you want!!! If darker than grim, you besiege and beset it, with the help of God you'll get it!!!!" ~ Les Brown

Tips & Tricks

question We scanned a project and have millions of points and images of the site.  So now what?

answer stamp Let me start by asking the same questions you asked your client and your staff before you purchased a scanner and collected all of this information.  What do you want?  See when we acquired GPS or total stations we did it because either our clients had expectations or we set new expectations based on what we could now do.  In scanning I think we forget that and are caught trying to provide the same results with out making any changes (you know, a two dimensional line drawing that represents the site).  We are missing out on what the scanner can really do and what we can actually do with all of this data.  There is so much potential to what the scanner can offer us and our clients and we have to stop looking at using it to do what we always did and look for ways to do what we always did better, or look at new things we can do.  One such example of this is the Truviews created in Leica Cyclone.  This is a deliverable I can give my client that allows them to see the photographs and then mark up and print from the point cloud!  Watch the video below.
