Billing

A doctor and a lawyer were talking at a party.

Their conversation was constantly interrupted by people describing their ailments and asking the doctor for free medical advice.

After an hour of this, the exasperated doctor asked the lawyer, "What do you do to stop people from asking you for legal advice when you're out of the office?"

"I give it to them," replied the lawyer, "and then I send them a bill."

The doctor was shocked, but agreed to give it a try.

The next day, still feeling slightly guilty, the doctor prepared the bills.

When he went to place them in his mailbox, he found a bill from the lawyer.
Tools of the Trade April 2011
Greetings!

I looked up and realized it is almost May!  Where the heck did April go??

I have two important things to get out this month so I will get right to it.  You may remember last year I worked with a local MDA group to help raise money to send kids with Muscular Dystrophy to summer camp.  Thanks to the help of my friends and colleagues like you, I was able to reach my goal of $2000.  It is that time of year again.  I know money is tight for us all, but if you can give as little as $10 it will go a long way toward helping out this great cause.  Click here to make a secure donation.

The second item happening is the Leica Roadshow coming up in a few days.  Because of strategic planning and just me being busy, I am behind in getting the details out!  If you are a Leica scanner user, or looking to learn more about High Definition Surveying, you do NOT want to miss these events.  The workshops are free and ever member attending is eligible for a FREE 6 month copy of Leica Cyclone II Topo!  To register or learn more click here.

Since it is coming up more frequently now, Autodesk has released their 2012 products.  I am anticipating a release of compatible Carlson Software products by mid to late summer.  Aside from new features and enhancements, the Autodesk 2012 release should have some of the issues we have been seeing with 2011 on Windows 7 64-bit systems resolved.

I am still available for software demonstrations, training, consulting, and now I am ramped up for Leica C-10 scanner demos, so if you are interested give me a call or send me an email!

As I said last month, there are some interesting and exciting things happening at CDS these days and I hope we can have the information on our web site soon, and start sharing it with all of you.  So, until next month best wishes, be safe, and most importantly don't be a stranger!

Sincerely,
Paul M. Carlson
CDS - President

Tips & Tricks

question We need to set our total station up on a job that has existing control, but there is no way for us to actually setup on any of those points.  What do we do?

answer stamp I am a HUGE proponent of using resections, so this question is perfect for me.  The resection allows you to calculate an unknown position based on 2 or more known positions.  This is great for construction layout, law enforcement, and anyone needing to set-up "out of the way".  Click here to watch a brief video I put together for performing a resection as well as a few other tricks in SurvCE and AutoCAD.
