Hunting Trip
|
| Four friends were going to go on a weekend hunting trip in South Texas. The night before they were leaving Rob's wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going. Rob's friends are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do. The next day the other three get to the camping site only to find Rob sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and supper cooking on the fire. "Dang man, how did you talk your wife into letting you go?" "Well, after you left I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said 'guess who'?" I pulled her hands off and she was wearing a brand new see through nightie. She took my hand and took me to our bedroom. The room had two dozen candles and rose pedals all over. She had on the bed, handcuffs and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed and I did. And then she said, "now, you can do what ever you want." So here I am.

Tools of the Trade December 2010

Greetings!
Can you believe this is the last newsletter of 2010? I sure can't. This has been quite an interesting year for me and CDS, and I know it has for you as well.
As a business owner I have learned a LOT this year, and as an employee in the company on the front lines every day I have learned a lot as well. Every question I was asked that made me dig out books, search the internet or spend hours digging deeper into things than I had before were things I really enjoyed. So for that I say thank you! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow this year even more than the year before.
I hope you learned a lot from me this year as well. The combination of these monthly newsletters, my blog, the CDS Knowledge base, and all of the other things we have put out there, for you. I hope you came away from this year a little better off because of something I was able to do for you.
Don't forget to take advantage of available Tax Savings With IRS Section 179 (2010). The benefit of a Non-Tax/Capital Lease is that it can take advantage of Section 179: expense up to $500,000 if the equipment is put in use in 2010. In addition, you may depreciate any excess on the depreciation schedule for that asset or utilize the 50% bonus depreciation for 2010. Read more here.
Now it is time to wind down this year and celebrate. Some will celebrate Christmas, some Kwanzaa, some Chanukah, but most importantly I hope you get to celebrate each other. Celebrate your friends and family and the joy that they bring to you. When all of that is done we get to celebrate the end of 2010 and the dawning of 2011. I wish for you and your families and your businesses a year of good health, prosperity, and as much happiness as you deserve.
I will be enjoying the season with my wife and daughters and get a chance to meet my nephew who was born this summer, as well as spend time with family I have not seen in a few years. Our office will close on December 24th at noon and re-open January 3, 2011.
Until next YEAR, stay safe and best wishes! Sincerely, Paul M. Carlson CDS - President

Tips & Tricks
This question primarily comes from our Law Enforcement and Construction clients, but it applies to everyone equally. Why set points, and why do backsights or point checks when using GPS?
Orientation is the simple answer. It does not matter if we are using GPS, total stations, scanners, or tape measures to location positions. The end results needs to have all of the data properly orientated. Click here to watch a video I put together that shows this and also gives a sample of a distance/distance intersection using two known points and two measured distances.
