George was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.
He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be there when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all."
Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Tools of the Trade October 2010

Greetings!
What the...is it really October already? While I can not believe we are in the last quarter of 2010, I am quite pleased that it is three quarters of the way over. October means fall, football, halloween, and most importantly my birthday. I am kidding about my birthday being important, but it is this month. More important than that is TSPS on the 13-16. I have attended every convention since I moved to Texas and this year is no exception.
What will be different for me is that while I will be at the convention and in the exhibit hall I will not have a CDS booth. Part of the reason for this involves some new things we are doing at CDS on the consulting side of things. If you see me, please stop me and ask me about what is happening and of course if you have any software questions or need pricing or just want to say hi.
I will be around and will have time to answer any questions I can as always, I just will not be doing it from a CDS booth. Since it is my birthday month, if you see me in the evenings stop and have a beer with me.

Tips & Tricks
 We have contours and we need volumes, what do we do?
 Ahhh grasshopper, you have come to the right place. In Carlson Civil you have several ways to calcualte volumes. Many of these start with surfaces, and the timing is perfect. There are actually some new features in the 2011 release of Carlson Civil (YES, it is available!) that are worth pointing out.
