Greetings!

How are you?  I often think we don't stop sometimes just to ask that simple question.  How are things going for you, your family and your business?  What changes have you had to make personally to thrive or just survive in these tough times?

We are seeing many companies look for work in new locations, or even in new fields.  Many are tightening their belts and making other changes.  Even companies like Autodesk and Carlson have been forced to layoff staff and make other cost cutting measures.

We are working very hard to prevent those measures, so we can continue to provide the highest level of service and support to you that we can.  I received an email from a client a week ago thanking us for the support we had given them.  We did in ten minutes what could have cost them an entire day of production!

You may not need us on a daily basis, but it is those times when we can step in and help you out of a situation that could have cost you a lot of money.  That is where CDS really shines.

We are working with Carlson Software since the changes to their Carlson College program and have become the first company West of the Mississippi River listed as a "Member of Carlson College"!  We are also 1 of only 3 in the country right now.  This is huge for us and something we are very proud of.

I have 2 favors to ask of you.  First, email us or give us a call and lets start the conversation on what changes you are making to thrive or survive in this economy.  Let us know where you are heading and let's see if we can help you get there, if we can help you achieve your goals.  Second, before you buy a data collector or a piece of software or a GPS receiver, give us a call.  If we carry it, we can do a good job on the price, but more importantly we can support it.

I look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best of luck.

Sincerely,
Paul M. Carlson

question What does the Geoid model do for me, and how do you load them into SurvCE for use with an Altus GPS receiver or any other receiver using SurvCE?

answer stampAs adapted by NGS, the geoid is the equipotential surface of the Earth's gravity field which best fits, in a least squares sense, global mean sea level.  Meaning the surface that would would coincide exactly with the mean ocean surface of the Earth, if the oceans were in equilibrium, at rest, and extended through the continents.

The gravity of field of the earth is neither perfect nor uniform. A flattened ellipsoid is typically used as the idealized earth, but even if the earth were perfectly spherical, the strength of gravity would not be the same everywhere, because the density varies throughout the planet.  If that perfect sphere were then covered in water, the water level would be higher or lower depending on the particular strength of gravity in that location

By determining the difference between the the ellipsoid and the geoid surfaces, called the "geoid-ellipsoid separation" or "geoidal height", at a given point, we can then apply the geoidal height to our GPS height measurement to get the mean sea level elevation.

Want to know why more people buy their software, total stations, GPS, data collectors and other supplies from CDS?  Support and Service.  But don't just take it from me, read what one of our client's said about a recent support case:

"I'd like to thank you so much for the help earlier on that corrupt dwg file. I was in a very tight jam with time when I realized I couldn't even use my drawing. I was worried that it may take me the whole day or longer to resolve the issue working on it myself and you did it in ten minutes."

Again, thank you so much,
