Greetings!

Can you believe we are almost at the end of another year?  It seems just yesterday we celebrated the New Year, and here we are just weeks away from another one!  This year has seen a lot of changes for us and for many of our clients and friends.  With the changes in the economy we have seen many people buckle down and cut back, but the positive side of that are the new companies that we see being formed.  Since CDS is a new company, it is great to see those who were presented the opportunity grab it and run with it and we wish you well.  For those of you considering going out on your own, you might be interested in the promotion we are running right now that should help you grab that opportunity and build something new (see the promotion section at the bottom).

CDS has had a few changes this year as well.  For those who knew, we moved to a new office here in Austin this summer and have also expanded our reach.  With team members and representatives now in the Midwest and the Northwest we plan to slowly and deliberately grow our business keeping sight on our core values and goals.  We plan to grow and not lose sight of the reason this company started in the first place, providing the best products and services to our clients.

Starting with just one offering we have grown to be able to offer such products as AutoDESK, Altus GPS, and are now proud to represent Nikon, TDS and SECO.  Damon and I are in Las Vegas at AutoDESK University this week, and upon my return I plan to begin working more with TDS.  All of this as part of our commitment to stay current on the products we offer you so we can be your number one resource in this industry.

Before I forget, if you have not taken advantage of The IRS Section 179 Tax Savings you only have a few weeks left.  Business owners who acquire equipment and software for their business usually prefer to expense the cost in a single tax year, rather than depreciate a little at a time over a number of years. This deduction is known by its section in the tax code, a Section 179 deduction. Under Section 179, businesses that spend less than $800,000 a year on qualified equipment, can accelerate depreciation expense up to $250,000 in 2008. The rules are designed for small companies, so the $250,000 deduction phases out dollar for dollar when a business purchases more than $800,000 in equipment and software in one year.  For complete details, or changes to the tax incentives, please visit www.irs.gov or contact the IRS helpline at: 800-829-4933

So let me close this month and this year by saying thank you, and wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday Season and prosperity and good health in the New Year.

Sincerely,

Paul Carlson

How do you create points in the field using SurvCE?

answer stampLoaded Question?  There are several ways to create points in any program and SurvCE is no exception to this.  The first thing to identify is what you are trying to accomplish.  Are you trying to create a point halfway between two other points?  Are you trying to create points every 50' along a line?  The video in this months submission will demonstrate a few quick ways to calculate points in the field using SurvCE.
