Greetings!

In a continued effort to improve, we are proud to present you with this new format for our news letter.  We hope you find it useful, helpful and easy to follow.

We have also updated the Tech Report to be more of a Question and Answer section and are using the questions that our clients send in as opposed to topics that we think are important to cover.  Your question could be here next month!

We are continuing our search for qualified individuals to help us reach our goals and help us better serve you.  The process is long but worth it and we hope to have good news on this front soon.

Please enjoy this month's letter and let us know how this format works for you.  I will also mention that we have found some formatting issues with this news letter in Outlook 2007 and are working on ways to improve the final product for you.

Sincerely,
Paul Carlson

"We are working on a large project that will span several miles as well as several months.  Because of the size and scope of this project we will need to have multiple people involved in the project at various points.  We need to be able to share data between multiple users and offices but are afraid that the Carlson .CRD file (which is the crux of the project) will not permit us to do this.  The question is, can multiple CAD techs work on different drawing sections of the project utilizing the same CRD file instead of having to create multiple CRD files for each drawing?"

answer stampThis is a good question and is a little more complex then just the answer of the CRD file.  Projects are getting larger and more complex and span broader areas, longer time lines and have higher numbers of people involved.

On large projects where a company needs to have multiple individuals or departments or offices working on a project simultaneously, simple things like sharing survey data is a big factor of success.

In the "olden days" the common practice was to chop the project up into several pieces and deliver it to each party and let them work on their own little piece.  One of the short comings of this is not being able to easily share updated information.

This is one of the reasons using External References in AutoCAD is so popular and powerful.  AutoCAD has even been updated in the last few releases to inform users if changes were made in a file being referenced and prompts to reload the reference file so it is current.

These things are there to accommodate larger jobs or jobs where more people are working with the data simultaneously.  As for the Carlson CRD file, since it is not "project specific" the file can be attached to multiple drawings simultaneously.
