Reminder that POWER7 is catching on Fast!
|
A reminder that the POWER7 can save you money. If you are on the fence about a new POWER7, take a look at this comparison. For each inquiry, MCS composed a customized analysis showing the capabilities of the installed server vs. a Power6 server and a Power7 server. The analysis will also show the cost of the hardware, software, hardware & software maintenance, and a 3 year TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
The analysis proves that doing nothing costs more than upgrading to a Power6 server or replacing with a Power7 server. How is that possible? 1) Power7 hardware and software costs are very inexpensive; 2) The Power7 server comes with a 3 year hardware warranty; 3) Hardware and software maintenance are much less expensive on Power7; 4) End of year discounts and promotions.
A copy of an actual customer analysis is available for your review, just click HERE. The customer's name has been removed and the serial# of the installed server is X'ed out. But, the actual IBM Configurator output is available upon request. In this real example, the customer saved more than $15,000 over 3 years by replacing an installed iSeries model 520 with a Power 720 and got a faster server with much more capacity. | V5R4 is being withdrawn from IBM.
|
IBM i customers have been informed that IBM i V5R4 will be withdrawn from marketing in January, 2011 and that support will be terminated one year later in January, 2012. IBM V6R1 is the minimum OS version required for the recently announced POWER7 servers. Customers should be planning now for upgrading to IBM V6R1 or V7R1. The upgrade from V5R4 (or earlier releases) to V6R1 and V7R1 involves planning for a program conversion.
