IBM Announces Withdrawal of i5OS |
IBM has announced that support for V5R3 of i5OS (now called 'IBM i') will be withdrawn on April 30, 2009. If your AS/400-iSeries-System i is a Model 270 or newer, you should have already upgraded to V5R4. Ordering the V5R4 software on CDs/DVDs is free, providing your IBM Software Maintenance (SWMA) is current. Systems currently running either V5R2 or V5R3 can upgrade to V5R4 as a single step. The process usually takes 8-10 hours and your system must be dedicated to nothing else. As a result, most OS upgrades are done on a weekend. V5R4 requires a minimum load source drive of 17.5 GB. MCS IBM i certified technician, Bryan Mangan, routinely does i5OS upgrades, provided they are scheduled in advance. I5OS upgrades are billable, except for MCS System i support contract customers who have an annual upgrade as part of their agreement. IBM's current V6R1 is still not widely in active use at busy shops in production mode. MCS will not encourage early adoption of new versions of an OS, until proven under harsh conditions. Watch Out For Children On Halloween |
As children take to the streets on Halloween to trick-or-treat, their risk of being injured by motorists increases greatly. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that children are four times more likely to be struck by a motor vehicle on Halloween than any other day of the year. Because excited trick-or-treaters often forget about safety, motorists and parents must be even more alert. For tips on helping keep young ones safe on Halloween please click here Halloween Safety Tips - provided by AAA. | |
