United Way strategizes for impact on local graduation rates
dr o testDonors to United Way of Cass-Clay can now add graduation rates to the list of local issues that their gift is impacting.

In October, United Way of Cass-Clay gathered over 100 community members to discuss current graduation rate trends and statistics.

Since then, United Way of Cass-Clay and the three area superintendents have been working diligently on planning the next steps for community engagement and support around the topic of graduation rates.

On Tuesday, December 1st, United Way of Cass-Clay will bring together interested community members, business leaders, educators and students to help solidify our action steps, goals & outcomes on our road to improve the on-time graduation rates in our community.

What do you think should be done to increase the graduation rates of our local students?
Those interested in supporting an initiative surrounding our students graduation rates can attend on December 1st and/or complete a short 6-question survey.

Your responses will assist us in the early strategy work.

If you are interested in learning more or want to attend the session on December 1st, please call 701-237-5050 or email jgreen@uwcc.net.

Local child care:
United Way launches pilot project to improve quality of child care
child care press conference QRIS pilot project
Becky Hoselton and her son Connor read while waiting for last week's press conference announcing United Way's local child care pilot project   Becky spoke and provided a parent's perspective on the value of a system that rates local child care.

United Way of Cass-Clay is leading the way in efforts to improve quality child care for our local community.
The pilot project launched last week is the first of its kind in the entire state of North Dakota and is designed to help parents gauge the quality of their child's care provider.

What is the Quality Rating and Improvement System Pilot Project?
A Quality Rating and Improvement System is a program that provides opportunities and incentives to child care providers that assist them in providing quality and enriching environments for children.  Each participating child care site is reviewed on a regular basis and is graded using a rating system.  United Way of Cass-Clay is providing the funding to launch a pilot project for this type of system.

Who will lead the pilot project?
The pilot project will be implemented by Lakes and Prairies Community Action Agency Child Care Resource and Referral and will begin in January.

United Way of Cass-Clay has made a $135,000 investment in the project which may be used as a model for future legislation and other child care initiatives.

WLC Luncheon Victoria signing books
Local women enjoyed meeting and visiting with actress and author Victoria Rowell at the 9th annual United Way of Cass-Clay Women'sLeadership Luncheon as she signed copies of her book The Women Who Raised Me

Hundreds of women took the opportunity to LIVE UNITED by attending the 9th Annual Women's Leadership Luncheon on October 27th at the Ramada Plaza & Suites.  They enjoyed a "Purses Plus" silent auction, lunch, and a dynamic and hearfelt presentation by keynote speaker Victoria Rowell, most known as the actress who played Drucilla Winters on The Young and the Restless.  dr o testBut Rowell showed local women she is much more than a soap star, but also a passionate advocate, mother, dancer, foster child and best-selling author. The young woman told her life story of growing up in foster homes for 18 years and her road to success in dance, television, and most recently, writing.

"I was never meant to be raised by one women, but many," said Rowell as she read an excerpt from her book The Women Who Raised Me and encouraged women in the audience to seek out and recognize the women in their lives who have taken the time to mentored them and understand what how that experience has made an impact.  A true advocate for children, she reinforced that if we can provide young children the tools they need to succeed, we will watch them grow into successful, capable and talented adults.  Her message  reinforced the value of United Way of Cass-Clay's Success By 6 intiative-all proceeds from the luncheon will be invested in efforts to give children the positive and enriching experiences they need to succeed in school and in life.

Thank you to those who attended and look for information on next year's event!
