SIGN UP FOR SMART 911
Smart911 is a free service that allows you to register information you would like to make available to 9-1-1 call takers. When you sign up for the service, you choose the information you wish to share, which may include photos of children or pets, medical information, emergency contacts, disabilities, home address or other rescue-related information. When you call 9-1-1, Smart911 automatically delivers the registered information to the 9-1-1 call taker. If you are calling from a cell phone, the service also allows the call taker to temporarily locate your position. The benefits of Smart911 can be seen in the following scenarios: If your child goes missing - Call takers are able to instantly send a photograph of your child to every police officer in the City. If your parent has a medical emergency - Based on the medical information transmitted to the medical responders, they already have a treatment plan in place by the time they arrive on the scene. Remember, 9-1-1 and law enforcement agencies only have access to your information when you place a call from your registered phone number. All information resides on Smart911's secure server and cannot be accessed by call takers at any other time. You can find out more about Smart911 and sign up for the service on the City's website. Don't forget to tell your family and friends.

WEATHER RADIOS GIVEN AWAY BY SANDY SPRINGS FIRE RESCUE
Sandy Springs Fire Rescue (SSFR) will be giving away NOAA Weather Radios to Sandy Springs businesses, churches, offices or anywhere else, where at least 50 or more people congregate at one time. The radios were paid for by a grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). More than 60 have already been given away by SSFR in the community. To get a radio from SSFR, fill out the form online and sign up for a free 45-minute severe weather awareness presentation. The only stipulation to receive a free radio is that if you choose not to use the radio in the future, SSFR asks that you sign a form stating you will give the radio back. The weather radios are equipped with a special tone feature, which can sound an alert and give residents immediate information about potentially life threatening situations. During an emergency, the National Weather Service will interrupt routine weather radio programming and send out a special tone that activates the weather radios in the warning area.
