SANDY SPRINGS FIRE RESCUE HOLDS OPEN HOUSES AT FIRE STATIONS
For the second year in a row, Sandy Springs Fire-Rescue Department is holding Fire Station Open Houses. The event will be held during Fire Safety Week on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at all four of Sandy Springs Fire Stations:
- Fire Station #1, 1425 Spalding Drive
- Fire Station #2, 135 Johnson Ferry Road
- Fire Station #3, 6025 Heards Road
- Fire Station #4, 4697 Wieuca Road
The event is open to all elementary and middle school aged students and their siblings, and the goal of the Open House is to learn valuable fire safety lessons from Sandy Springs firefighters while having fun at the same time. Firefighters will teach children fire safety and prevention through enjoyable activities. Firefighters will cover topics such as EDITH (exit drills in the home), the meeting place, stop/drop/roll and various other fire safety topics. The Open Houses will also give the students a chance to interact with the firefighters while experiencing a small part of the roles and responsibilities of the firefighters. Station tours will also be available. For more information, please contact Capt. Mark Ware of the Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department, at 770-730-5600 or by e-mail.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS
In addition to our Emergency Alert Twitter service, the City of Sandy Springs utilizes other services to contact our residents in an emergency. These include: Swift911 Direct AlertsSWIFT 911™ is a high-speed notification system that, in the event of an emergency, contacts every registered household and/or phone number either by telephone, email, text or pager. Because this program uses a map of Sandy Springs in a grid, calls can alternatively be made to specific neighborhoods with information affecting only that area. To ensure contact is made, the system can continue calling the specified number until a person answers the call or it is picked up by an answering machine. Emergency messages also reach TTY (teletypewriter) phones used by those who are hearing impaired. Code Red Weather WarningsCode Red is a system that will automatically call registered residents and businesses with a recorded warning from the National Weather Service if a severe weather warning is issued for your area. For more information about all of these services or to sign up, visit the Emergency Notifications area of our website.
