NEWLY RENOVATED PLAYGROUND AT HAMMOND PARK
The annual safety inspection conducted on the large playground at Hammond Park revealed several unacceptable wooden supports on the equipment. Ultimately, the entire playground, which was originally installed in the early 90's, was condemned by the inspector. The City immediately appropriated $78,000 from the Recreation and Parks maintenance and repair budget to renovate the playground. The GameTime Playground Company provided the new equipment through the US Communities program. The City's community service work crew took the old equipment and mulch out of the area. The new equipment and mulch were installed and a grand opening was held on December 17, 2009. The renovated playground creates a safe and fun outdoor recreation and play space available for children in Sandy Springs. Mayor Eva Galambos, Councilmembers Ashley Jenkins and Dianne Fries, City Manager John McDonough, Director of Operations Wayne Wright, Recreation and Parks Director Ronnie Young and Assistant Police Chief Ken DeSimone were on hand at the grand opening to welcome an eager group of children ready to enjoy the new play equipment.

SAFETY TIPS FORM THE SANDY SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT
Tips to Avoid Identity TheftHere are just a few tips that can help protect your personal information from criminals. - Practice mail security. Use a public mailbox rather than your home mailbox to send bill payments and other mail containing sensitive information. Pick up your mail promptly and ask the post office to hold it while you're away.
- Guard your Social Security number. Don't carry your Social Security card, military ID, Medicare or other cards that have your Social Security number on them unless you are going somewhere where you will need them. Only provide your Social Security number when there is a legitimate need to do so.
- Lock and shred. Keep your billing and banking statements and other personal records locked up and shred them when no longer needed.
- Stop prescreened credit and insurance mailings. Call toll-free 1-888-567-8688 to get off mailing lists for credit and insurance offers. Your Social Security number will be required. This keeps thieves from intercepting and accepting the offers in your name and doesn't affect your eligibility for credit or insurance
