SIDEWALK PROGRAM UPDATE

Sidewalk Projects
River Valley Road Sidewalks Construction
Construction is underway on this project to construct sidewalks on both sides of River Valley Road from Riverside Drive to Amberidge Trail.  This project, originally developed by Sandy Springs Revitalization, Incorporated, involves construction of new curbs and sidewalk as well as associated driveway tie-ins and utility relocations. Repaving is scheduled upon project completion. To date, more than 4,500 feet of new curbing and 2,500 feet of sidewalk have been installed.

Lake Forest Elementary School Sidewalk Design
A consultant is designing a sidewalk on Lake Forrest Drive from the I-285 underpass to Hammond Drive to provide improved pedestrian access within the neighborhood.  The project includes improvements to the intersection of Lake Forrest Drive and Hammond Drive. Requests for variances to support the proposed construction were approved in March and related right of way acquisition is underway.

Ridgeview Middle School Sidewalk Design
A design is underway to develop a complete sidewalk system along Peachtree-Dunwoody Road in the vicinity of the school. Construction plans are nearing completion with bidding anticipated this summer. Adjacent property owners will receive more detailed information and driveway easement requests this month.

Spalding Charter Elementary School
The design consultant begins surveying this month on this project to construct sidewalk on Brandon Mill and Dalrymple near the school.

Dunwoody Club Drive at Spalding Drive Intersection Improvement Construction
Construction begins this month to add a dedicated right turn lane from west bound Spalding Drive onto northbound Roberts Drive and associated traffic signal upgrades.
BRIDGE REPAIRS

The first phase of the Sandy Springs bridge repair project is finished. Work is complete on the following bridges in the City:
  • Riverside Drive over Marsh Creek
  • Spalding Drive over Ball Mill Creek
  • Lake Forest Drive over Long Island Creek
  • Jett Road over Long Island Creek
  • Brandon Mill Road over Marsh Creek
Stormwater and You
Fats, Oils and Grease are a serious problem that affect the health of our streams. FOG causes clogs in the sanitary system, which then causes raw sewage to spill into our streams.

You can find more information on FOG at Fulton county's FOG Web page.

The City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department recently began building partnerships with the local schools to allow for additional space to expand its recreation and sports program offerings.  Without use of these school facilities the recreation department would be limited in the programs offered to the residents of Sandy Springs. The City has built these partnerships with several schools in the area.
