HAMMOND PARK MASTER PLAN PROCESS CONTINUES
Hammond ParkA conceptual plan for the Hammond Park Aquatic Center has been selected from three plans presented by EDAW. At this time the plan includes a competition pool and a leisure pool.  The competition pool will be a 25 yard by 25 meter pool and include (1) 3 meter and (2) 1 meter diving boards. The leisure pool area includes 3 lap lanes, a lazy river for resistance walking, hydrotherapy bench seating areas, a zero depth entry with a climbable play structure, spray features and a waterslide. The facility will allow for spectator seating for 960 people.

We invite you to attend the next scheduled public input meeting on the Hammond Park Master Plan on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in the multi-purpose room at the Hammond Park Gym located at 705 Hammond Drive. In order to allow more people to attend, there will be two sessions. The first session will be at 10 a.m. with a second at 7 p.m.
CITY WEB SITE ENHANCEMENTS
CalendarThe City's Web site has gone through a number of changes and enhancements over the last few months. The most recent and notable of these changes is the incorporation of a new calendar system. The new calendar will provide visitors to the site far more accessibility and functionality than our previous system. All events are now searchable. Visitors have the opprotunity to subscribe to particular calendars, receive e-mail or text message updates and much more. The new City Calendar can be found HERE and the new Community Calendar can be found HERE.

We have also introduced two new social networking features to list of online services. The City of Sandy Springs now has a Facebook page. If you can't make it to the City's Web site everyday, become our "fan" on Facebook to receive invitations to City events and updates on the latest news. The City has also begun to utilize Twitter. Twitter allows you to receive road closure and other emergency information through your computer or mobile phone.

Please note that the City offers its Facebook page and Twitter account as a supplemental service that may or may not always be up to date. For the most current information, please refer to www.sandyspringsga.org or call 770-730-5600.

4TH ANNUAL MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CELEBRATION
MLKThe Mayor, City Council members and other dignitaries invite residents and friends to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 19, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. The event will be held in the council chambers at City Hall. We will name the third Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award recipient. This person embodies the humanitarian spirit of Dr. King and has given significant philanthropic contributions to the community. The event will feature choral tributes, readings and a keynote address. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 770-730-5600.
STREET SWEEPING PROGRAM
The City of Sandy Springs Public Works Department started a Street Sweeping program in July of 2007. The Department sweeps 260 miles of curb on collector and arterial streets each month. Community appearance and stormwater quality are improved by the sweeping.  Additionally, the performance of the gutters, catch basins and drop inlets along the streets is improved, reducing the amount of water spreading into the travel lanes. Click HERE for more information, including a map and a list of streets scheduled to be swept.
STORMWATER PROGRAM
StormwaterStorm Sewer System Inventory and Assessment
The City is beginning a project to develop a map of the storm sewer system with an assessment of the physical condition of the system. A map of the existing storm sewer system is the first step to improve system management and maintenance. Regular inspections to evaluate the system and identify any areas needing repair ensure a proactive maintenance program instead of a reactive program. A proactive program saves costs associated with catastrophic failures and inconvenience to constituents. During the next two years of the mapping process, the system will be visually inspected for maintenance needs. In subsequent years, a regular inspection program will also help the City fulfill permit requirements. The inventory data collected as part of previous Fulton County projects will be reviewed, and inventory protocols will be prepared.

Storm Drain Marker Program
The City of Sandy Springs is embarking on a drain marker program where our goal is to label all 4,000 catch basins in the city. Our hope is to involve residents in helping the City while also educating other residents and business owners about Stormwater pollution. Through a comprehensive communications campaign, we will be asking residents to contact the City to obtain markers they may attach to catch basins that say, "No Dumping, Drains to Stream." Volunteers will receive a map showing the location of catch basins in the area they wish to work and pamphlets to distribute in the neighborhood/area.

Visit the Sandy Springs Stormwater Page for more information.
