Several area schools are scheduled to be closed on November 4th (election day). Please check with your children's schools for more information.
CPR TRAINING

Citywide free CPR and AED trainings will be held on November 9th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Fire Station #1 (1425 Spalding Drive, Sandy Springs, GA, 30350) and on December 6th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. at 1st Baptist Church of Sandy Springs (650 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328).

VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4TH
VoteNovember 4th is your final opportunity to have your voice heard for the 2008 Presidential election. In addition to the unprecedented Presidential race that is coming to end, there are a number of local and state seats and referendums up for your consideration. Please do your civic duty, and cast your ballot.

WINTER RECREATION PROGRAMS 
It is time to register for upcoming Winter Recreation programs. Watch for our newly formatted Recreation Guide that will be distributed through the local elementary and middle schools. Our list of programs is also available on the City of Sandy Springs' Recreation and Parks page.

Adult Winter Basketball Leagues (men's & women's)
Registration begins November 3rd.

Youth Winter Basketball Program (grades 2-8)
Registration is currently underway and ends on November 28th.

Gymnastics Winter Session (ages 18 months-17 years)
Registration for new students begins December 1st.

GREENPRINT SANDY SPRINGS UPDATE
The Greenprint Sandy Springs Stakeholder Workshop was held on Monday, October 20th. The stakeholders participated in a greenspace goal weighting exercise and reviewed draft priorities maps for each goal. At the next workshop, stakeholders will discuss greenprint implementation steps for presentation in the final report.
TOWN HALL MEETING -
COUNCILMEMBER DEJULIO
Tibby DeJulioSandy Springs District 5 Councilmember Tibby DeJulio will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will focus on the new police chief, the Windsor Parkway sidewalk project and a budget update. Staff and consultants will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the Windsor Parkway sidewalk project.
 
The meeting will be held at the Church of the Atonement, 4945 Highpoint Road, NE, 30342. Meetings are scheduled to last 90 minutes and are open to all Sandy Springs residents. These meeting are part of a series of Town Hall Meetings to update residents on City issues and progress.
PAVING UPDATE
The City's Capital Paving Program Phase II continues with work on Heards Ferry Road from Mt. Vernon Highway to Northside Drive. The remaining streets are South Trimble Road and Windsor Parkway.
Special Note: As it continues to get colder outside, please be mindful that sprinkler systems do not spray on roadways or sidewalks causing dangerous icing.
Paving
INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
The City has moved forward with the intersection improvement program for the Fiscal Year 2009.  The construction projects at Roswell Road and Carpenter Drive, Roswell Road and Sandy Springs Circle and Riverside Drive and River Valley Road will be completed very soon. There are also an additional six active intersections that are currently undergoing survey and design.
SIDEWALK PROGRAM UPDATE   

Sidewalk ProjectsRiver Valley Road
Sidewalks Construction
The City has awarded a contract to Ginarc Construction to construct sidewalks on both sides of River Valley Road from Riverside Drive to Amberidge Trail. This project will involve construction of new curbs and sidewalks as well as associated driveway tie-ins and utility relocations.  Repaving is scheduled upon project completion. Construction layout by the contractor will take place within the next few weeks with an overall construction period of approximately six months.
 
Lake Forest Elementary School Sidewalk Design
A consultant is designing a sidewalk on Lake Forrest Drive from the I-285 underpass to Hammond Drive to provide improved pedestrian access to the school. The design project includes improvements to the intersection of Lake Forrest Drive and Hammond Drive. The consultant is currently preparing preliminary concepts and gathering additional design-related information.
 
Ridgeview Middle School Sidewalk Design
A design contract was recently awarded to develop a complete sidewalk system along Peachtree-Dunwoody Road in the vicinity of the school. Surveying along the portion of Peachtree-Dunwoody Road from the Glenridge Connector to Trimble Walk Lane will begin soon.
CITY SEEKS NOMINEES
FOR MLK HUMANITARIAN AWARD 
MLKNominations are open for the Sandy Springs Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. The award will go to a person distinguished for humanitarian contributions to society in his or her business, profession, volunteerism or philanthropic life's work. Individuals may nominate a living resident of Sandy Springs who instills pride within the community and inspires others. Each nominee must have been a resident of Sandy Springs for the past three years or longer and should embody the spirit and philosophy of Dr. King. Current Sandy Springs staff and elected officials are not eligible.
 
A nomination form, available for download from the Sandy Springs Web site, includes a space for a 100-word summary outlining why a nominee should be considered for the award. Forms are also available at Sandy Springs City Hall, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500. They are due Dec. 5, 2008. 
VETERANS DAY SALUTE
AT HERITAGE GREEN 
Heritage Sandy SpringsHeritage Sandy Springs is hosting a salute to our men and women who have served our country on Sunday, November 9th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The festivities will be held at Heritage Green on the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn (6110 Bluestone Road next to CityWalk).
