Rubber Mini Expo and 174th Technical Meeting
to be Held in Louisville, Kentucky
LOUISVILLE, KY - 10/1/08 - The Rubber Division, ACS plans to host an expected 2,000 attendees from around the globe for the 31st Rubber Expo and 174th Technical Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, October 14-16, 2008 at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

The Rubber Mini Expo booths are sold out at 168 exhibitors.  All booths at the Rubber Mini Expo are 10' x 10' to allow companies to showcase their products and services on an equal playing field.  Rubber Mini Expo is the only show devoted exclusively to rubber and rubber-related products and features industry-leading companies from around the world.

Hugh D. Pace, Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer at Pirelli Tire North America, will kick off the 174th Technical Symposia on Tuesday, October 14, at 8:00 a.m. with a keynote presentation titled "Globalization and Regulatory Harmonization."  Ninety technical papers are scheduled to be presented with symposia topics including Advances in Nanotechnology, Elastomeric Materials: Challenges in Pharmaceutical/Biomedical Applications, NHTSA Tire Research and Rubber Recycling.  Individual meeting papers as well as a complete set of conference proceedings on CD-Rom are available for purchase by contacting the Rubber Division's Library Services.  For more information, contact Chris Laursen at [email protected] or 330-972-7197.

A Student Colloquium and Poster Session will be held with a combination of graduate and undergraduate paper presentations.  The Student Colloquium will open with a keynote presentation titled "New Product Development - Chances and Contributions in a Mature Market" by Dr. Martin Saewe of Rhein Chemie Corporation.  Student Colloquium and Poster participants are eligible to win one of four $1,500 awards for best papers and posters.

The Rubber Division will also hold a Student Job Fair aimed at graduate and undergraduate students in attendance at the Rubber Mini Expo and Technical Meeting.  Several employers will have tabletop displays with job openings and other opportunities on Thursday, October 16, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

The Rubber Division will hold two technical courses and both still have openings for registration.  Fundamentals of Rubber Compounding is a day and a half course that will be held October 13-14.  Introduction to Rubber Technology, a one-day course, will be held October 15.  Participants can register for these courses onsite or at www.rubber.org.

Attendees have the opportunity to sign-up for lunch with special invited VIP executives from throughout the rubber industry.  The VIP Luncheon includes a keynote presentation titled "Risk Assessment in Regulatory Decision Making" by Dr. George M. Woodall, Toxicologist from the National Center for Environmental Assessment with the US Environmental Protection Agency.  Participants can register for the luncheon onsite or at www.rubber.org.
