Greetings!
The end of March we displayed our cat trees at the TICA All Breed and 6th Annual Ragdoll Congress in Rosemont Ill. This was the largest show we have participated in since we began selling our trees on the Internet and the results for us were extremely good.
People seeing the product for the first time were amazed at the design, the attention to detail, the solid construction and the value for the money spent. Our Mission Statement simply states "we want to provide our customers, both human and animal, with the highest quality, longest lasting, aesthetically attractive and most cost effective cat furniture in the industry". We are always keeping those words in mind and as we move forward we continue to produce cat trees of the highest quality.
If you were one of the many people who stopped by our booth in Rosemont we thank you. We hope to see you again at a future show.
In this issue of the newsletter we feature "The Big Oak", which is the largest tree we make, standing seven feet tall with room for as many as seventeen cats. If you are looking for a large tree, take a close look. We talk about pet insurance. Veterinary care continues to go up in cost. Insurance is just one of the options that may help you control and afford the cost of medical treatment for your cat as it gets older. We wrote about "America's native longhair - the Maine Coon", listing some of the reasons why many people think they are the perfect domestic pet. And finally, if you are considering taking your cat on vacation this year and are flying, you need to know the rules and regulations, so we have written a series of articles that are airline specific that you should read so you have no surprises.
As always, we are open to suggestions and encourage you to email us with any ideas or comments about our products or the content of this newsletter. Enjoy!

The Big Oak The Ultimate Cat Tree
Your cat will be the envy of the neighborhood with this beautiful playground with its multi-level climbing layers, several scratching areas, and plenty of resting space. The tree stands 7 feet tall and the greatest width is about 53 inches. The Cat Tree top is fashioned like a "nest" - it's 24 inches round and the depth ranges from 3 inches to 6 inches. The top platform is padded, and like all our units is lined with a thermal layer to retain your cat's body heat for greater comfort. The top gives your cat an area from which it can survey its' "kingdom", and from where the more important decisions of the day can be made. There are a total of twelve leaves, each sculptured for cat comfort and lined with our unique thermal layer. Nine holes are positioned in the trunk providing many areas for exploration that will keep even the most curious cat busy. The cat tree trunk is wrapped in commercial grade carpeting to ensure years of trouble free wear. The extra wide base provides stability and prevents tipping under normal use. see: The Big Oak |
Pet Insurance Should you have it?
Pet owners are spending over 12 billion dollars a year in veterinary care. That amount is going to continue to increase as the pet population grows and the advancement of medical treatments prolong the lives of our pets. The longer they live chances are the longer they will need some supervised medical care. All this comes at a higher price. Question ... how do you pay for it? More pet owners are starting to turn to reasonably priced pet health insurance to take away the worry of how to find the money to pay for needed medical treatment in their cats' senior years. It is estimated there are over 82 million cats in the U.S. The pet insurance industry reports that less than 3 percent are insurance subscribers. With so few cats insured and owners beginning to realize this is a good way to offset expenses we can only hope the competition among insurance companies will keep premiums low. Just like with human insurance we have to be educated consumers. You have to be able to answer such questions as: - What is the insurability of my pet?
- What are the different levels of insurance available?
- What is included in coverage?
- What are the exclusions?
- How do I process a claim?
- How soon can I expect reimbursement?
To help you understand more about pet health insurance and what needs to be considered as a consumer we have published an Internet article. To check out the details click here: Cat Insurance |
Maine Coon Second Most Popular Breed in 2007 based on CFA Registration
The Maine Coon is one of the oldest breeds in North America and is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine. Fact and fiction mixed to spawn a number of attractive legends surrounding the cats' origin. Most professionals truly believe the Maine Coon originated with the breeding of pre-existing domestic shorthair cats and long haired immigrants from overseas.
The Maine Coon is noted for a glossy heavy coat which is water resistant. The coat is longer on the ruff, stomach and britches, and shorter on the back of the neck. This thick glossy coat needs grooming regularly to prevent matting and to keep it looking its best. The cat has a long bushy tail that when asleep is wrapped around its body to protect it from the cold. There is a extra measure of fur on the inside and tips of the ear which also provides insulation against the cold. Large, round, tufted feet provide added stability, and large eyes and ears serve to increase sight and hearing. The Maine Coon is a big boned, muscular cat, with the males commonly weighing between 13 and 18 pounds, and females between 9 and 12 pounds. With an extra thick coat they give the appearance of being larger than they actually are. This is a relaxed, easy going breed which prefers to "hang out" with you as opposed to being overly dependant and constantly seeking attention. These cats generally get along well with children and other animals. Both males and females remain playful throughout their lives, but the males are known for little more 'clowning' around. Cody's Corner Tips for your cats' wellbeing
"I love vacations. Especially along the seashore where I can smell fish twenty four hours a day, take a nap in the warm afternoon sun, or if I feel like it, menace the crabs running across the sand."
"What I don't like are the long car rides to get there. I really prefer flying. I know its a hassle. I know it can be expensive. But aren't I worth it? After all it is "vacation"". To take the guess work out of how you go about making arrangements to fly on various airlines check out the links under "Cat Links" above. There you will find information that is airline specific on what you need to do to take your feline traveling partner along. We will be expanding that area with the rules and regulations of additional airlines, so if you don't see the airline you plan to travel on this summer keep an eye on the blog and as we publish new articles we will make the announcement there.
