Happy Holidays Contact First Name

I was suppose to write this yesterday but after breakfast Jodee enticed me to go for a bike ride with her over at Bent Creek.   The air was crisp and clear, and many of the trees were still shimmering with bright reds and yellows. We rode the Greens Lick trail with all of its whoopty doo's, what fun! We came back home, had a hearty lunch of Jodee's home made soup and I settled down to write when my friend Lani called. He told me that the NC Dept. of Natural Resources had released trout in the North Mills Rived Friday and we ought to go fly fishing. Well, several fine Rainbow and Brown trout later I made it back home but I was too hungry to write so Jodee and I tried out one of the new restaurants across the river in Biltmore Park. After that I was through for the day.  What a fine place to live but it is hard to get something done sometimes.  Which makes it a perfect place to take a vacation!

Leaf season is almost over but the holidays are just around the corner.  We hope you all are looking forward to a plentiful Thanksgiving Day feast with friends and family soon and a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannuka, or just a fun holiday season and Happy New Year afterwards.   This year we are closed from December 23rd thru the 25th to celebrate Christmas with our families.  However, breakfast will go on!  At this point Jodee is expecting 24 for her traditional Christmas Eve breakfast with family and friends.

Now is a great time to visit Asheville and see the Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn decorated for Christmas. With all of the Arts and Crafts galleries, specialty shops and boutiques it is an ideal place for your holiday shopping.  Stay with us and you can come home to the lodge, relax, and wrap your gifts by the fire.  If you are have trouble finding a gift for someone remember you can always give them a Bent Creek Lodge Gift Certificate, Jodee's Cookbook or a set of our super soft Comfy Company sheets.
2011 Photo Contest Winners

In the last newsletter we announced our photo contest and that we were looking for photos of guests enjoying the area attractions.  Thanks to all of you that sent in your photos we loved them.  First place went to Lois Uthman for her photo at the Arboretum.  It is a very good picture of her and the Arboretum's fountain but it is the background that made it special. Check out the person imitating the pose of the statue, it adds a little whimsy to the moment.  I don't think it was planned but it made it a great photo.

Second place went to Jason and Meridith Axt for their picture at the Biltmore Estate.  They just look so happy to be there and with each other.  It just makes you want to be young, newly in love and on vacation.

Third place went to Pat Yonaitis of her rafting group.  It captures a lot of emotion and again you can certainly tell it is western North Carolina with the Nantahala raft.

There were some very fine photos, some of the humming birds were amazing, but these seem to express the fun of being here the best.  I hope you enjoyed them.  You can see the rest of the entries by clicking here

Website Update

Do you know why the spider crossed the road?  Give up?  To get to his website.  I know it is an awful joke but I needed an introduction to tell you that we have updated our website.  It isn't a complete rework but more of an update.  Our website was only a couple of years old but we thought we would try to make use of some of the B&B industry recommendations and improvements to the technology.  We are still using Wild Country Studios in Pearisburg VA. It has easier navigation, a cleaner look, and a photo gallery of its own now.  Please check it out by clicking Bent Creek Lodge.

Guests News

I thought it would be nice to share some of the special things

The Gross Party

guests are doing at the lodge. This month Don Gross threw a great birthday party for his wife Jean here.  Friends and family spent the weekend, enjoyed the fall colors and shared a wonderful dinner Jodee put together for them.  Don created a "This is Your Life" slide show of Jean that he played thru the TV that had everyone laughing into the night.

This weekend Amado Li and Rose Cory, unbeknownst to each other, showed up to run the Shut in Ridge Race.  It is a foot race up 18 grueling trail miles from the Arboreturm to Pisgah Mountain.  With the ups and downs it has over 5000 ft of elevation gain.  They had a lot in common; they were both fine atheletes and finished the race, were looking for heavy duty food and a cold brew afterwards and are committed to coming back and going faster next year.

There were many other wonderful visits.  We appreciate them all.  Thanks and we hope to see YOU again soon.

Sincerely,
